Does this apply to 2015s as well? In other words both the "key" and the separate FOB have a chip?

Couldn't I simply order a replacement key and copy it then stick the "new" key into the FOB and still have the old original key untouched?

I bought another blank fob, punched out the key blank carefully and saved the pin
Ground out the cut key from the plastic
Put the key into my original fob, used the saved pin and drove it in.

Or you can have a locksmith cut a new key on a replacement fob, the follow these instructions to reprogram

They sell the replacement key on amazon for $36, but I really just want the pin haha.

You got funny looks asking for a 1/16" roll pin? I'd be giving them funny looks on the way to a real hardware store..

Yes. My 2015 came with a key and the fob. I just pried the plastic off the key and inserted it into the fob. Took all of 5 minutes to do both keys.

It could have been my fault. I didn't call it any specific name. I asked if they carried the pin used to hold the key in place of a switchblade style key. I showed them the key... Ohwell...

My Z was in for oil change and dealer asked if i wanted to Opt out of the recall. To which I responded YES! Didn't know we could do that, but my service writer drives a Z also and said he likes the switchblade better too.

Here is something really stupid...a co-worker just bought the new 2015 Jeep Renegade and it comes standard with the switchblade key fob.

WTF!?
