Strange Noise Around 3500 RPM

Hi All,

First post here. I have a 2014 1LT RS Camaro. Love it.

Lately it has been making a strange noise around 3K-3500 RPM. It sounds like it is coming from behind the dash on the passenger side of the car. I have it on video, but can't post it here. It sounds like whirring? (not really sure how to describe it). I have brought it to a couple dealers who hear the issue but can't tell me what it is. One of them wants $1900 to pull the dash to diagnose the issue. The dash has already been out twice for heater cores, so I'd like to avoid this. Does this sound familiar to anybody?

Thanks!

Danny

Sounds like an engine accelerating while going through the gears and some road noise. Normal sounds when driving a car to me.

Its a metallic rattling or sizzle over the top of the engine noise.

I heard it...turn up the volume fellas im on my laptop. It sounds kind of like a heat shield thats just barley loose.....see if you can crawl under with a rubber hammer and give your exhaust an other stuff a tap.

I hear it too. Kind of reminds me of when the bolt for my transmission vent tube (metal piece right by exhaust) disappeared and it would tap the exhaust. Was a horrid littler bugger.

Think I recall you can check it from under the passenger side mid car. Little metal tube just up against a rubber vent hose off trans. It then bends around by exhaust with a single bolt holding in place.

A 2014 with 2 heater core issues?, any idea what caused it.
I knew the earlier models had some heatercore issues was hoping that issue was fixed.

Hey guys,

Good thoughts. Will check the fire wall area and the transmission vent tube tonight.

The heater core went bad 6 months after I bought it and the dealer I bought it from messed up a bunch of other things while the dash was out, so it had to come out again. Just a faulty part, but a huge pain...

Mine makes a hissing sound, similar but not identical to yours (and mine is louder and more pronounced). I was told that it's probably just the fluid passing through the heater core. Only happens when I punch it.

This is an old thread. In my case, the noise ended up being the airconditioner compressor pully. It makes a metallic hissing type noise from the bearings or something, but its intermittent. Varying the RPM of the engine will make it go away. It seems to resonate around that 3500rpm area. This may or may not be what you guys are hearing, but that is what it was for me.

Incidentally, it was just a noise. My airconditioner has always worked fine.

Oh yeah, and I just remembered how I figured that out. When the noise is occurring, turn the airconditioning on. This engages that pully, and the noise goes away.
