Maybe it has something to do with the 80mm throttle body. Too much air flow for the intake manifold. Does this rpm hang happen with a ported 76mm stock unit?

He needs the MAF insert, or it has to be tuned.
The MAF insert is a plastic sleeve they put inside the intake tube that slightly reduces the opening at the MAF sensor, mine has one. If I were to remove it, then I need to tune it. With the bigger TB, he has to pull fuse #5 and #20, resets the KAM in the ECU, then relearn the idle trim. |

I mean at full bolt ons, after adding the 80mm TB last, even with resetting the ECU I would occasionally have a very bad idle issue where the MAF and TPS correlation would be far off enough that the car wouldn't run properly (sounding like a misfire) and then die. Tuning corrected it.

I did same thing. Unplug battery for 30 mins, clears computer. Then drive for 100 plus miles for computer to reprogram itself. Loping normal, goes away. I really enjoy the change of the 80mm, Intake and Spacer.

You pull the ECU fuses, I think 5 and 20 in the engine bay, when the motor is COLD.
Then put them back in, and idle the car from cold to operating temp to learn the idle trim, and throttle position. If you ever change a VVT solenoid, you have to do this too. It will apply learned values to a new solenoid, and it won't be the same. No one solenoid has the same resistance. SO, if you put a new VVTS in with higher resistance, it won't actuate as far as the other. Too low resistance, it will move too far. So, it all has to be relearned. Same with coils, plugs, anything that effects engine performance. |
