285 tires on a 20x9 wheel?

Hi gents,

The time to change tires has finally come. I'm not particularly happy with my stock P-Zero so I'm going the Michelin Pilot Super Sport route. Anyway, I before I commit to the purchase, I just wanted to check with you regarding fitment. I have Style 41 20x10 in the rear and 20x9 on the front. I know that I won't have problems with 305's in the rear and a 275 on the front but unfortunately our local tire supplier doesn't carry those tires in 275 size and won't be for a long time. He does however carry the 285 and I was wondering whether those are a good fit for the front. I mean, they'll probably fit the wheel, but do you reckon I'll have any other problems like rubbing or anything else I might be missing? Thanks in advance for your input!

Go to the sticky recommended tires for our camaros thread. It says they will fit.

I know, I saw that but I just wanted to ask anyway since maybe somebody could tell me something else that would be helpful or useful

You should be fine. I used the Goodyear supercar g2 in a 285/35 on a 20x9 wheel with no issues. I did road courses and autocross with them on too.

They will fit. I had to use some spacer to get the tires to clear my coil overs in the front. BFG Rivals 285/35/20. Your experience may differ.

Stan, of your suspension is stock.....no issues at all, but as mp51998 mentioned, you MAY have to have a spacer.....

Dang, I was hoping not to be putting spacers. I know that different tires differ in width regardless of the specified size (285 in this case) so I guess I'll just wait for somebody with Michelin PSS to chime in...

And yeah, suspension is stock

What about 265 on the front...i just did 295 40 20s on the back with stock rims..and 255 45 20s on the front. I really like the big tire smaller..but not to small on the front look. I think these cars look good with that rake.

Unfortunately, there are absolutely NO 265 or 285 Michelin tires througout the whole country (Bulgaria is rather small). They're all sold out and they haven't got a clue when the new stock will be coming in. I can order it but apparently it'll take quite a bit of time. So my options are either 255 or 285...

20x9 wheels make any tire look too skinny. Get 20x10 wheels or wider for a nice wide look..

The rears are 20x10 and I'm putting 305's there so no problem. I'm not too concerned about looks however. I'm more concerned whether I'll have any rubbing or steering problems with such wide fronts (285) with a stock suspension...
