6th Gen ZL1 with AWD

I "called it" in some earlier threads on the C6 forums.

Well, to be fair, GM really hasn't said anything. Seems the article is more of a "what if" instead of a "what shall be". Not saying they won't do it, just saying that article is hardly definitive.

Actually quite opposite if you think about it. Said that they dropped the AWD for the Caddy to save weight... and since the 6 gen is all about that, then I would guess no, it won't be an option.

I'm against it also. It will surely make the car stick and it will have a great advantage on the track. It will change the feel of Camaro's traditional platform layout, and to me ultimately it would be a downgrade to the heritage of Camaro.

Fully agree. They seem bent on fragmenting the traditional car guys right out of the 6th gen. They are concentrating on the gaming generation, where performance numbers trump the art of driving, and overall experience. Rev match, awd...... no thanks.

Yes sir love the Trans Am/Can Am series. If I had the time I think I would build a pro tour 1st gen with a dash of LSA.

I think an AWD, American V8, 2 Door, Sports Car has been missing in the market for some time now.

Mopar went with big power, small tire, RWD in the Hellcat.

Ford went with extreme handling and high Revs in the GT350 and I will bet it will have a huge power TT V6 or TT V8 in the GT500.
(I am hoping for TT V6 personally in the Next GT500)

Why not trump them both with a ZL1 with a 580-640hp V8 and AWD?

The Hellcat would stand no chance against a similarly powerful car with 100% more tire at the strip. NO CHANCE.

The GTR could effectively be dethroned by a Camaro at 1/2 the price!

Basically making the Camaro into an American Godzilla.

I am all for it to be honest. This is 2015 and GM is getting ran over in the power department but all the power in the world doesn't help if you can't get it to the ground.

The ZL1 is a competitor now because it has large rubber and less power and can hook easier than the others can out of the box.
AWD would just multiply that by 2 extra drive wheels!

AWD in a ZL1 is the only thing that would make me consider trading for a Gen 6.

RWD is to FWD what AWD is to RWD.

But, I doubt this will happen, GM will put the AWD only in a 4 cylinder Camaro if at all.

I love the idea - as an option - if possible in a Gen 6 ZL1.

But I bet the cost would be significant.

I like the idea, but it shouldn't have the camaro name. An AWD sports car from GM needs it's own name. The camaro should live or die as a RWD car.

As some of the other guys mentioned, an AWD camaro would more than likely only be available on the 4 and 6 cylinder Camaro packages. Much like the previous Cadillac CTS, The AWD system could not handle the power of the V8.

I used to say AWD was dead weight but once I went over 1000hp and watch the GTR's and Lambos lay down some serious speed because traction is not an issue... I wish I could find an easy way to put some of my power on the front axle. Horsepower is absolutely useless if you cant get traction and the gen5 ZL1 on stock rubber is already on the edge in my opinion.

I'm not sure if the gen6 Camaro will ever use AWD and I kind of doubt that one of the high performance V8 models ever would but the writing is already on the wall, the much more powerful Mclaren P1 cannot outrun the Porsche 917 around a race track simply because the Porsche powers the front axle and the Mclaren does not. The world is advancing and most of us don't do all of our performance driving on drag slicks over traction compound....AWD provides a significant advantage for traction and that means better overall performance. If you think your rear drive car is completely controllable you just don't have enough power.

Huh, a big supercharged engine with awd? Sounds like an S4. Yeah AWD is fun but it's not without its downsides on the track. For me it'd come down to what kind of system is used. 3 diff (think Subaru)? No thanks. Clutch type (eg. xdrive)? Maybe.
