Camaro V6 vs 2008 Subaru WRX

Camaro 2LT 6-speed manual vs the 224-hp WRX 5-speed manual. Who would win there ? I am guessing the Subie would take 60, maybe 1/4 trap time, but the Camaro would have a higher trap speed ?

Side Question:
Who would win in a drag race of the 300 hp AWD Acura RL and the 292 hp RWD Chrysler 300 ?? The RL has recorded notoriously slow times, but so has the 300...

wtf? 2008 WRX isn't 224hp...it's 265 bhp, 244 lb-ft

Don't underestimate the subie, it will be close.

2008

The 2008 WRX had 224 horsepower, the 2009-present WRX has 265. The 2009-present 2.5GT Impreza has the same engine as the 2008 WRX but is automatic only. Car and Driver got 0-60 of 4.7 and a 1/4 mile time of 13.5 @ 100 mph for the current WRX, which is Challenger R/T fast for the 1/4 mile and Camaro SS fast 0-60, though the 2009-present WRX's trap speed is V6 Camaro fast.

2008 will be a driver's race, advantage camaro especially up top. If it goes past the 1/4 mile the camaro will walk away handily as the wrx runs out of steam up top.

2009-present will smoke the camaro. The 2009+ wrx is underrated @ 265 and are actually putting down sti numbers. They are easily mid 13 second cars. It traps faster and it's awd so it will rip out of the hole. A stock v6 camaro won't keep up.

08 as long as the Camaro gets a good launch it shouldnt be much of a problem, a roll race and the Camaro will pull away right off the bat. Modded though the WRX is probably faster, Ive sat in some really fast ones.

New WRX no chance for the v6, they are basically just as fast as the old STIs.

Only chance V6 Camaro has with an old STI/New WRX is if its mostly stock and the camaro has bolt ons + a tune AND its a race from a roll.

Theres a reason they cost more than the v6, youll need an SS to take care of them. Then the game changes

My buddy got his brand new 265hp 09 WRX fresh off the truck in September 08 for $25,200 and that was with the optional STI short throw shifter.

08 WRX is the worst year WRX ever made due to the super soft suspension, pay extra for ground effects which became standard in 09, lame little spoiler on the hatch, boring interior, and it's slow as shit once you grab 3rd gear.

v6 Camaro starts at like what 22k? I just priced the new WRX and they start at 25,000 with no options. To get HIDS you have to start at like 27k and change.

So in their price range compared to the Camaro you decide between looks with the Camaro or speed and awd with the rex. They can quickly option out to 30k which by that time is SS territory.

Yep. The new sti is actually slower than my and other generations Your best bet against a new wrx would definitely be from a high roll. Same with the sti. The sti especially has stupid short gearing until fifth gear and when you shift into fifth it's like tripping in a full sprint. That's one of the drawbacks of our emissions standards in the US, they had to gear 5 and 6 really tall and the shift from 4-5 puts you in a bad spot. If it's modified though you will have some issues even if you are fully bolted. We can pick up crazy power with simple bolt ons. I would be more worried about sti's than wrx's from a dig too. . . the wrx 5 speed is pretty weak where the sti 6-speed is pretty much bulletproof up to 400awhp and a 400awhp sti will run mid 11s no problem.

Yeah a 6 speed generally pulls much harder up top.

I actually did a roll recently (on a closed course) with a older model STI. White 4 door.

It was a 70 roll, he left first and I shortly after. He shout out ahead by a car and a half and then I hit higher rpms and he still pulled away slowely. Once I hit 100 though I started catching up, slowly but with enough room I would have passed him.

Granted the windshield on his car was cracked so idk if he was a bad driver or something.

I just looked up the WRX pricing not too long ago. Im actually disappointed the new WRX would cost me around 28k before taxes to get HIDs and fogs and all that good stuff I have on the Camaro. If I could get HIDs and fogs on the base 25k model and be out the door for no more than 26k Id seriously consider selling my v6 for it.

For 5k more though I can definitely mod up my 6 to be faster than a new WRX and probably keep some change in my pocket.

And as fast as they are they really dont have much in the looks department on the Camaro. I also cant fit in WRXs! Like wtf! 6'3 190 lbs and it just aint happenin.

Really, have you sat in the newer 09+ without a sunroof?

Contact Costco auto buying program and they should be able to get you a new base WRX for 24-25k and talk the dealer into adding HID's and fog's over the parts counter for cost or cheaper depending on your negotiation skills.

320whp is only a intake, downpipe and tune away on a new wrx.

You can option a V6 Camaro to over 30k also.

Erm, priced a 1LT with only the RS package and it is 26660, that is what it takes to get HIDs, in the Camaro.
