Getting condensation out of technostalgia taillights?
So I have condensation in two of my technostalgia taillights.
I Know it sounds crazy! My question is how do i get the fog out and get the tailights looking like new again? I heard to drill a hole and let that dry but i feel since my tailights are fogged up that wouldnt do anything. i think the best option would be to opnen them and reseal them after. but how do i open them? with heat or just cut them open? |

I think the idea would be to vent them and let the moisture evaporate. Then reseal them.

I've had this problem. More than likely you have a cracked housing. There are a couple of small screws that tend to put some pressure on it and make a small crack. If it is under warranty, send them back. If you don't have a warranty, you could try to seal the cracks back up. To get rid of the moisture inside, just use a hair dryer on the out side.

The housing comes apart with just the screws (very easy). I had to do one and just opened it up dried it out and seal around the gasket with vrt and never had an issue since.

Some real helpful TIPS when removing or installing the lights.
If you're removing the Techno lights start by detaching the resistor housing from the light cavity to give yourself more room to work with. To reattach the resistor housing 3M emblem tape works very well. 1) When installing lights 1st time after unscrewing the outer bolts tie a piece of thin fishing line to the outer bolts. Tie the other end to the knob the light cover goes over. This way if you drop the bolt (and you most likely will...LOL) you wont lose it. Works like a charm ps - the outer bottom bolts are very very very difficult to get to (did I say very very very difficult!) unless you want to remove the bumper. Don't worry about reconnecting the bottom bolts, the housing will stay on fine with just the top two bolts 2) To Remove or Attach the Techno Bulb from/to Bulb Socket ( First disconnect the other Lamp wiring connections) Note: The Inner & Outer Bulb Sockets Turn in different Directions - Inner Turns Up to Losen/ Down to Tighten - Outer Turns Up to Tighten/ Down to Losen After losening the bulb socket twist & push it thru chassy opening, then remove or attach the Techno Bulb in the socket clip while it's in the chassy opening. It's next to impossible to remove or connect the Techno bulb into the socket clip when the lamp is seated in the chassy housing. REMEMBER to align the white mark on the bulb connector to the white mark on the socket clip. If you wind up putting the Techno bulb in upside down in the clip the Techno light won't light. Use GE Silicone II Clear Window and Door Caulk. 2.8oz tube is EZ to work with. Apply it liberally around the lens body seam and the rubber seal as the top of the seal seems to be where water builds up from the design of the light cover Don't worry about making a mess. The bezels will cover any overlap on the lens or you can remove it with your finger nail once it dries. You only want to have to do this once so better to apply a lot of silicone rather than try to be neat and exact. Put some vasoline on the bezels tabs. Makes them MUCH easier to get out the next time Last edited by camguynj; 10-31-2016 at 07:05 PM. |
