Engine Cover Question

Just wanted to know if removing my engine cover would be better for my engine? Since I'm in deep South Texas the temperature has been hitting 110 or so. Should I remove it or leave it the way it is?

Take it off, the cover traps heat, keeping things hotter. I always took mine off when I went drag racing. Now it just stays off permanatly.

I ditched mine the first week I owned the car. It does nothing, traps heat and gets in the way.

I took mine off just recently. I haven't noticed a change in engine temp, the dial on the guage doesn't seem to be in a different location.

I have not had mine back on since adding the Black Iceolator. Like others said, why do I need something trapping in more heat? It is now a wall décor in my garage.

Are you running hot? I dont see the point, other than aesthetics. Unless you guys are seeing notable temperature changes with the cover off, then why bother? I guess we can all do as we please, and hell in the end, who cares. Thing is, I have yet to read one thread about someone changing their engine temp by removing their engine cover. Granted I have not read the whole internet, but I'm working on it.

Taking it off does not help alter the engine temp. as you pointed out. But it will help let the heat escape away from our aluminum intake manifold quicker. After adding my ice-olater and plenum spacer, the height started getting to the point I figrued just leave it off all the time, and paint the manifold.

Average engine temps won't change, but the engine will cool down faster without the cover. That makes a difference in hot temps and at the strip.

I didn't like the look of the cover so I took it off. I also installed the black isolator so I would have had to modify the brackets to re-install the cover. I also removed some of the rubber strip below the cowl hood to let cool air into the engine bay, which blows directly on the top of intake manifold and the top of the engine around the intake manifold.

What type of paint did you use on your intake manifold?

How about this thing? I don't even know what it's called but it's the thing the back of the engine cover plugs into, and last year at Revyfest an enterprising rodent decided it loved it enough to eat some of it. What's it called? and will it be okay without it on until I order a new one?

You are fine without that.

Nice - that's good to know. I do show it with the engine cover though, and I still would like to find out what the darn thing's called if anybody knows.
