Break-in?
I was just wondering how some of you think is the best way to break the camaro in. I have heard some people say to take it easy on it for the first few thousand miles and others say to run the crap out of it. what is your point of view?

What about oil? Does GM put Mobil in it like they do the Vettes? Would it be wise to run Mobil 1 in it after 500 miles?

I've heard a few people mention the oil thing, but then others are saying that it doesn't matter anymore...
Also some saying that engine break-ins aren't that big of a deal anymore... And some saying just vary the RPMs for the first 500 miles before you fully "unload" it... Answers are going to be all over the place. There are a few threads about it if you do a quick search. I say just follow your owner's manual and you'll be fine. They made the car, so I would think they should at least know how to use it. |

I keep hearing to run it hard if you want maximum performance, maybe this isnt best for the longest engine life possible but multiple engine builders as well as people dyno'ing new cars say the cars that get run hard early on end up with the best numbers. Even the old saying is to break it in like your going to drive it.

well changing the oil after five hundred miles is dumb. i have been a mechanic for 13 years and have never run across that anywhere. i say give it 500 miles before you beat on it to much but after that?? go for it. i would however change the oil after 3000 miles even if the info thing says it has oil life remaining. than got by the computer. when we picked up our vette they said in bowling green 750 miles away, they said not to mash the pedal for the first 500 miles and to vary the speeds. but after that do what you like. and they made no mention of stopping half way home to change the oil. there was my 2 cents.
