P015B and P015D, Need to pass smog
Reaching out for some help.
Made some mods and just took them all off to get my car smogged in California. 2013 SS L99 Convertible, Muffler Delete. Had Also: SW LTHs & HFCs, CAI, and tune from RDP. Worked great! UnMod1: Removed LTHs, HFCs, and tune all back to stock CEL came on about every 2-3 days P015B and P015D. I would reset with my aftermarket idatalink Maestro Radio, but kept coming back. The was going on for about 3 weeks. Code reset before the smog test didn't work for the smog shop. They said they can't be cleared away and I need to drive it 80miles and bring it back when all the codes are reestablished. UnMod2: Last night I removed CAI and back to stock after smog test. Drove for a a day and it just threw the P015B code, I'm sure the P015D will come soon. What can I do to fix this? -I was really careful transferring the O2 sensors back to the original headers -I put some techron cleaner in my tank and filled up half way this morning, threw the code at night, but had a bottle sitting around from another car so why not. -I've tightened the exhaust clamps a few times after the CATs as they leak some exhaust Other thoughts I have: -I was thinking to go back and try tightening my header bolts some more -My stock headers sat outside for a year and a half and then in my garage for 2.5 years. Did the CATs go bad? Corrosion inside? -Should I just clean my upstream O2 sensors? Get new ones? -Can I just apply my tune and the Cali smog shop will still pass me? Any guidance would be appreciated, need to pass smog soon and I want to avoid taking it into a mechanic or dealer. I'm probably just going to put all my MODs back on anyways after smog as its only a few hour job. Thanks! |

So I am seriously considering the SCT X4 package from RDP for my 2013 Camaro SS L99 Automatic Vehicle. It doesn't appear to have any aftermarket additions. Although the exhaust system just sounds awesome. But it may have had a tune done to it, as it seems to have some popping on deceleration and on an occasional cold morning shift break.
I drive the vehicle on the streets, both high speed interstate and local roads. I am pretty happy with the car's acceleration overall, but I did just order a cold air intake. I don't plan to replace the headers. I know the lifetime tunings come with the kit, but I am trying to assess the value of a $450 investment, as opposed to a HP or Bully Dog or a lower priced SCT. And, whether the tuning is an iterative process, where it takes a few tunes to get it perfect for my application. Can I just get away with a standard tune file from a lower end device? Or, will I really get a significantly better tune with the custom tune? ANd, will I ever need to change the tune in the future if I don't change anything? Thanks, Cody |
