FS: KDI Heat Exchanger
KDI 4" Heat Exchanger. Bought this new and just never took my build to the point where I felt I needed the advantages of this large exchanger. Never installed, been sitting in box ever since I bought it.

This is a good heat exchanger. Mine keeps the iat2 temps within 8-12 deg F on even the warmest days. Just make sure the pump goes to the bottom fitting on pass side as it's easy to get them mixed up with the 3 individual fittings on this unit.

You can get a push lock an fitting and put an extension hose on it and mount its top higher then the top of the exchanger. This let's any air that is trapped in the exchanger rise to the top of the hose preventing air circulating through the system. I never did this as I have a snap on vacuum bleeding tool and a coolant reservoir installed. This eliminate any air problems.
Edited my first post due to the pump outlet goes to the bottom fitting not the top like I had posted. Flow always should go bottom to top on flow to aid in air evacuation. |

Is this one better than an Afco with fans?

Before the d3 heat exchanger came out this was the biggest unit available. The only time the afco is better is if you only do drag racing and have the cooling fan on all the time to keep airflow going through the heat exchanger. The flip side to that is I usually have the a/c on with blower on low and recirculate on and I never have condensation issues in the staging lanes. I turn the a/c off just before I hit the burnout box. With a/c on the condenser fan comes on which pulls airflow through the heat exchanger. This keeps my iat2 close to ambient.
