They won't go electric only on the Mustang or Camaro for a generation or two, assuming they survive that long. To do that on the next gen Mustang would be too much too fast.

Can't say I'm a fan of electric cars. I will always love turning a wrench and working on a Gasoline Engine!!!!

I hope this doesn’t violate forum rules. The story is funny as hell....to me at least. We’ll see what you guys think. I’m out this evening running an errand. On one road there was a guy in what was apparently his new Challenger 5.7 R/T. He was driving like a dick, to put it mildly. Swerving in and out of lanes to get to where he would be first at a light, then launching hard from the light. The way this road was timed, there were a lot of lights.

Finally, he winds up next to me at a light. Light changes, I floor it and shock the bejeebers out of him. I wasn’t driving my Camaro. I was driving a BMW i3s electric car that I’ve had as a press car this weekend. That thing is freaky fast 0 - 40. Think Tesla Model S lined up with a Demon, only the i3 is way more dorky looking than a Model S. But the result was the same. Surprise and humiliation.

I drove a coworker’s i3 in Germany. I was very impressed with its power while driving in the city (with three!) but it was a soulless experience. Cold and without emotion. It would be an adjustment.

I can't get over those pizza cutter tires on the i3. I would think you can't take a corner very fast since your tread contact with the road is minuscule at best.

When I first saw an i3, I could not believe it was a BMW. I didn't think they could make a car that hideous. I don't know If I'd want to be seen in one. It reminded me a little of the Pontiac Aztek.

As for this Mustang, it might look cool, but I couldn't help but wonder about the ways in which Ford could screw up the electric motor, lol.

The i3s has a bit more tire than the i3. 175/55/20 in the front, 195/50/20 in the rear. Compared to 166/70/19 front and 175/60/19 rear for the i3. Handling was pretty good. Different than Camaro / Corvette / Mustang, but very good regardless. Even though it is disproportionately tall, the batteries significantly lower the center of gravity and keeps in flat in corners and curves.

If this had been badge a Mini it would make more sense.

I Agree. Where would you find tires in 10 years?

Pretty ironic statement, considering today’s news.

I'd be down for a gasoline / electric hybrid like the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder.
