Nice! Full 6 seconds faster than the GT350R....wait doesn't that put the ZL1 1LE a couple of race classes above the GT350R? Meh, things like lap times don't matter, the GT350R sounds better....

Even the lowly, standard ZL1 was faster by nearly 2 seconds, and they claimed the ZL1 still had a couple of seconds left in it.

My thoughts exactly. Defies logic, but the fact that the GT350 commands significant ADM whereas the ZL1 does not only helped those of us who wanted the ZL1. I'm usually on the other side of the equation, so I feel good!

Anyone notice the zl1 and the z/28 ran nearly the same time (sounds like the new zl1 had some water issues on its lap)? Supports Al's comments that the z/28 is a 7:28 'ring car. Man the gm track stable is insane right now.
If I'm keeping score right... Z06 and zl1 1LE beat gt3 Rs in LL. Grand sport matches to within a 1/10th and the zl1, and z/28 are within three seconds. Holy. Cow. |

For reference, the Porsche 911 Turbo S ran a 2:46:7 this year, nearly a full second slower than the ZL1 1LE. Thats very impressive. Another way to think about what they pulled off with the ZL1 1LE is that its sitting between the 661 hp, ~358k (as tested) Ferrari 488 GTB and the 641 hp, also about 350k McLaren 650 S.
I also looked at the compiled lap times and picked out only Camaros & Mustangs. In the middle of the list you've got the V6 1LE & 2011 GT500 (that was the 550 hp version) tied at 3:04:00. Below that mid point, you have 1 Camaro (2010 SS) and 9 Mustangs. Above it, 3 Mustangs and 6 Camaros (7 if you count the V6 1LE). Just an interesting way to parse the historical data.

Either way, at the end of the day it's awesome to see a $70k Camaro do an amazing job at getting around a track fast. Just proves that Chevy has some of the best chassis engineers out there and that America can build some of the best track/street cars at a bargain. |

It may be worth noting that the Mercedes AMG GT R was driven by C&D's testing director.
Both ZL1's were driven by editors. Not a hater, just saying. |
