Supercharger Replacement Pitfalls for Dealer

It appears that my Supercharger catastrophically failed with no audible warning. It was discovered when I took the car in for some issues that I encountered while driving: runs on less than 8 cylinders, stabilitrac warning, erratic (automatic trans) downshifts while in drive, exhaust baffles appear open all the time. This cars is 14 days away (June 14th) from being out of 3 yr/ 36k warranty. I want the dealer to "nail" this repair before I am in the power-train only warranty ( I didn't buy any additional warranty that I was offered due to me finding out that it didn't cover "vert" issues that are well known, of course not). Are there certain things I can tell this dealer (hints, if you will) so that they have an easy time with this. I don't believe they do alot of ZL1 repairs. It seems like I have heard of windshields being broken during this procedure or am I thinking of something else? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

This^^^^^^

Have them check your magneride shocks for leaks since that will be the most expensive line item to replace but definitely have them inspect your top for wear while you have it there.

The new Chevy PP covers more items including the shocks that was not covered with the old PP from a few years ago. You may want to look into it while you still have time left on your bumper to bumper warranty.

If you need to advise a dealer on how to do factory servicing of an engine then the best advice would be for you and not them: tow it to another dealer. If you have issues directly after the repair and they're clearly due to the work they just did then they should still cover it if you have a good dealer. Get it and drive it a lot to ensure all is well after getting it back if it's the time part of the warranty that will expire.

I would be asking did the engine ingest any blown up supercharger bits since you didn't say how it failed. Inspect the oil for metal shavings when drained. I would also cut open the oil filter and look for metal shavings.

I suppose I was just looking for guidance as to what needs monitored for these repairs. I do have confidence in them. It's just so easy for GM to not want anything performed and run me out of warranty.

I would ask to be there when they remove the Supercharger so you can inspect with them the rotors, and potentially remove the snout and inspect so you are aware of what failed. Make sure they follow the TSB for removal which lowers the cradle for rear access to bolts vs drilling, If they are moving over the old fuel rail make sure they replace the injector O rings top and bottom, (They cannot be reused). Also make sure if the new SC does not have the Post for your SC red cover that they remove all from the old and reattach.

By the way when you said catastrophically failed what does that mean, locked up? If so you would have known as there would have been a heck of a whine coming from the Serp belt and one heck of a smell as it burned.
