That is going to look badass for sure. My only concern would be heat.

I agree about trapped heat being a potential issue for the Heartbeat.Two potential mitigating factors: 1) Have Kincaid Killer Chiller (with drag option that sends 100% of the R134a to the front evaporator when selected from the cockpit) 2) Back of scoop will be cut open to allow heat to escape. I guess time will tell.

I'm using a kit from one of the 2nd gen Trans Am vendors that allows the back side of the 1973-81 shaker to open and close with WOT like the OEM shaker from 1970-72. I'm going to wire it so that it's open with key "ON" but closed with key "OFF".

'tis true, 'tis true, however I was actually going for the stealth approach. I love the Heartbeat as there is no discernible (at least on my car) blower whine - just some gear lash noise which has a nice solid-lifter sound to it.

Just a few additional pics. My goal with this project was to make it as if Chevrolet offered this shaker from the factory. The guys at J&J Rod and Custom in Anna, Texas have done a tremendous job toward that end.

Look at the first pic of the new hood and all of the bracing that had to be cut to accommodate a hole for the shaker scoop, and then look at the second pic - beautiful blending (in my opinion).

It's hard to tell from the pic, but the shaker base sides are made from ABS plastic that has been cut around various things.

Now in the paint booth. Look again at the workmanship on the underside to get the hood to look like it could be OEM (which is what I wanted).

Well, after 6 weeks, I finally picked her up today. I love it. The shaker definitely "torques" to the right when you get on it. I had a custom "6.2 LITRE" decals in matte white which will go on each side of the shaker, and I will install soon and post a pic.

I also took the opportunity to install a genuine GM dovetail rear spoiler. Was told they were discontinued, but my parts guy found one sitting on a dealer's shelf in Daytona Beach, Florida. It was an open box, but everything was there and undamaged.

Again, I want to thank everyone for the positive comments. A little background: I came of age in the late 70's/early 80's and that's when the 2nd gen Pontiac Trans Am was the must have car. I sat in a new '77 Trans Am in the showroom of Hallet Pontiac in Miami, Florida in December 1976; I was eleven years old and said "One day...."

The prices of really nice 2nd gen Trans Am's have gone into the stratosphere so owning a really nice one was probably not in the cards.

Doing this mod gave me the "shaker hood experience" I've always wanted, but in a package that's light years ahead of the old Trans Am's.
