It's gonna take more than popcorn to get through this one.

Although this is a complicated unit as I go along I am also trying to figure out a way so the mail slot scoop can be installed by the average guy. So far it's a pice of cake. The most important piece will be the trim around the mail slot but I can't do anything with it untill the scoop is finished and fitted, hopefully by next week end.

Didn't have a chane to do too much today. I did remove the Airaid CAI and put back the stock unit. I needed to do this to gain access to some areas that were not accessable with the Airaid. I still have my two scoops from the facia attached. I snapped a quick photo of the snorkel and inlets, this will be discarded when I finish the new CAI as it will no longer be needed.

Got my Argon today so had a chance to do a bit more to my scoop. I got the top/back welded together, I am hoping to do the front tomorrow, once I fit that I will make the sides and weld it all together, what sucks now is that I will have to take the facia off to fit the scoop and finilize the routing of the intake tubes and decide on the filter housing, as of now I'm still thinking of putting the filter behind the facia completely isolating as much of the system as possible from the engine compartment, not that big of a deal except for the fact this is my DD so the facia will be coming off and on at least a million times.

Taking the fascia off isn't too bad, but there are two screws (one on each side) way up near the top of the fender, they are the biggest PIA

I've had it off a few times already to do the heratige grille, my plate mount and lower two scoops,I have been leaving those two bolts out untill final assembly, it's just that this is a time consuming project and cannot be done all at once.

The mailslot scoop is about as far as I can go untill the facia comes off. Then I can fit it and weld the sides and fabricate the outlets. If everything goes right I'll get to it this weekend. If so I will post pics of the scoop mounted in the mailslot. From there I will do the trim/grille and start working on the filter housing. Here are a couple of quick shots of the scoop, no the duct tape isn't permanent. lol.

Finished the mailslot scoop today. I decided to leave it open on the bottom. This will allow more airflow to the radiator as well as to the filter housing. I ordered the filter I will be using, when it comes in I will make the filter housing and then finish the CAI. The photo's below show the scoop finished, still need to make the grille but at this time it's not that important, and the template for the CAI.

Had a chance to tinker under the hood a bit. Relocated the heater hoses and re-routed some wiring as well as worked on the mail slot scoop and filter housing a bit. Next I will do something with the fuel rails/ lines as well as continuing with the filter housing. I am waiting on headers then I will finish up some wiring . I also came up with some ideas on a few misc. items for under the hood. Here are a few photos on the engine compartment, it's starting to clean upp nicely.

Had a chance to play with my car a bit. I swapped the fuel rails around. Because my coil mounts reposition the coils away from the valve covers and lower on them there is room to put the injector harness undrneath rather than on top of the rails. I still need to play with the other fuel line, wiring and the heater hoses but am waiting on headers to check for clearences. I also had a chance to clean up the mail slot openning to it's final size and finished the filler on the radiator support. Here are a few pics.

DT long tubes have been installed. I didn't have room in my shop to do it so I had a buddy do it, he does quite a bit of hp work and reported that the headers went in real easy. The only problem is it's to friggin' loud. The car sounded great with the solo hf cats and mack xl exhaust but the mach xl and headers together with no cats are crazy loud, I'm hoping adding the hf cats will help some.

Had JRE update my tune after the header install including firming up the shifts a bit more, the car is really running good but still waiting on the cats.

Came up with a couple of ideas on the heater hose location. The hoses were fine with the stock manifolds but to close to the headers so I moved them temporarily while I work on my new idea.

Also started on the trim piece for the mailslot scoop. If I have time I will finish forming it on a mini anvil and then weld in the last piece. Once this is finished I can permanently mount the mailslot scoop and get it connected to the filter housing. I'll post a couple of pics of it a bit later.

I was getting ready to snap a picture of the trim piece and then it hit me. the piece pictured is three pieces welded together, now that I have it I can make a template and cut it out of one piece and then form it. This wal it will eliminate so much time and extra fabrication. If it works out I could even program the piece to be able to duplicate it with minimal time spent. Yes, I'm expecting to screw this one up at some point. LOL
