ZL1 vs Stingray?

I read online a test run between the ZL1 and the Stingray. The ZL1 has 115 or so HP on the Stingray, yet it's .2 slower in the quarter mile and 0-60? The ZL1 is 600 or so LB's heavier, but I would have thought the HP gain would make the ZL1 faster. Aside from weight, why is the Stingray quicker?

600 lbs is a lot to overcome.

Yea, guess I just expected 115HP to take care or that.

Aerodynamics as well play a part. Camaro has more drag I'd imagine.

Aero, weight, tire compound they were using, suspension. There are a lot of factors another could be the gear ratio.

Single with no kids, married with no kids, retired, or just don't give a dam = Stingray

Single with more than 2 kids, married with kids, retired with kids (that cant find a job)still at home or grandkids still living with you (from your kids that cant find a job)= ZL1

I think that covers it.

Anymore questions?

So right on. In 2006 I ordered a Vette, it was a last goal I had set as a kid. I also had realized other goals, like a wife and two kids . So I sold the Vette a year to the day later with 2800 miles. Just didn't drive much with kids. Now, with my SS, even though the ride is a little tight, we all can ride, so for a while I'm loving my SS, just wish I had bought a ZL1

Speed is determined by many things. I usually say:

Power vs. weight vs. gearing vs. aerodynamics vs. efficiency (traction)

The Stingray wins on most of those. The ZL1, however, is a tank in terms of build quality. It's probably one of the most bulletproof cars ever designed by GM. It is something that definitely can be BUILT, and for cheap since it's already blown. A Stingray may win initially, but the ZL1 can be made a lot faster a lot cheaper.

Given the choice, I'd take the ZL1.

I agree. But the ZL1 is rarer, more comfortable, has back seats, a trunk and a blower

the stingray is bad ass, and its in the same price range as a ZL1. but, for more "practical" if that can apply to either car, the ZL1 would make more sense for reasons stated above. i love the new vette on looks, but they do seem cramped and with the camaro you get more room and seating. its a tough choice as you aint comparing apples to apples. totally different cars and alot depends on what your intent for how you will use the car too.
