Back in the 1970s and early 1980s my buddies and I had a wide variety if muscle cars. Road Runners, Challengers, Corvettes, Darts, GTOs, Novas, Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, etc. I always liked the Looks of the Camaro's better. While the Mopars and Fords were nice the Camaro always seemed to be more appealing. There are a bunch of Challengers at the Dragstrip I go to and really them but I still prefer the looks of the Camaro. While the 2016 Camaro is a great performer and has OK looks I think they lost the Camaro retro look that brought them back in 2010. I like the look and performance of the new Mustang GT as well, but the Camaro to me is still the best looking muscle car out there.

I still like the look of the classic muscle cars. All makes. I would love to have been driving when these cars were new and were all over the place.

To not start a new thread, I figured I'd ask this here. Are there any reasons anyone can pinpoint as to why the camaro ss in auto would be a little underwhelming in terms of feel? I test drove one today and was expecting a lot more. I'd like to know if this is normal or if there's something that can be done to remedy this. Besides mods.

The tune is crap crap crap on the stock cars, both engine and transmission.

Unless you're willing to tune and mod...maybe do the fuse pull, reset the fuel tables and only run 91+

Otherwise you're stuck

I found since I have been tuned the car runs fantastic. IMO the biggest change you can make without going out and modding the car is to get it tuned. Ya people say not to tune a stick car. The tranny tune totally changes the feel of the car.....also my tuner did say my car was running really rich. The stock tune I think is their biggest downfall. Also you have to remember technology plays a large factor. It isn't a slow car ....but the feel of 400 hp is served up in a smooth steady feel, not like the old days.

You're exactly right about the feel of things!

Compare a 500HP BBC with a 1050cfm Dominator on top..and even a 580HP ZL1 will "feel" slow because the power is smooth, consistent and controllable in its delivery.

Where as the circuits in the 1050, being an ON/OFF approach, will feel much more violent, brutal and overwhelming, despite being lower powered and (depending on the car it's in) slower.

We'll at least you know the difference.......technology can be a good thing. Still going for a ride in something like your describing will keep things in perspective

Non Scat pack Auto at TMSP Friday night had a best of 13.96 at 103 next to me in the TA.

Beat him by bus lengths running a 12.52 at at 109.

My 2010 would have had him covered.

BTW I think he was trying to break it (JMHO) he hot lapped it mercilessly and that thing just got slower and slower last pass I seen was 14.3 at 97.

The 5.7 is a good motor, but not fast.

Yea, I went from maybe getting an rt when I first started this thread to now only considering a scat pack after I test drove the 5.7. I test drove the camaro and was just very surprised at how underwhelming it was when compared to the scat pack. If a tune is the only way to make it feel amazing, I may have to think about this since I didn't want to mod the car too much at all. At least not for awhile anyways

I think the scat pack is the best bang for the buck out of any of the current offerings. Plus it is really cool looking.

Yes I definitely agree with you. There's just the problem that I can't find any in my whole state. At this point I may have to just custom order the car if I do go scat pack.
