Because G8 was a VE Commodore. This is a VF Commodore.

True true. From a marketing stand point I'm still not sure why the ZL1 wasn't called a Z28 but obviously they know something I don't because its selling well regardless.

Like I said, they are saving it for the 6th gen to replace the ZL1

I thought that the SS name was just a temporary nameplate holder for the new 2014 SS? I figure they'd give it a proper name once they unveil it.

I think if they named the car "SS" it would get pretty confusing. The "SS" should be a package that the Camaro comes in. Are they thinking of doing away with the "LS" and "LT" packages even if they still have a V6 option? At first I liked the idea of just calling it a Camaro and it either having a V6 or a V8 in it (meaning no "Z28" name), but now if they bring back the Z28 name it should go like this:
Z28 = V8 Camaro = V6 Isn't that how it was for the 3rd and 4th Generations?

Remember, this is GM, where marketing is not job #1......(ford pun)................
however, remember when they had both the Chevy and GMC "Suburbans" for years.......so GMC marketing became "We are professional grade", since about 1998 or so, it is like Progessive Insurance's "Flo" spokeswoman, just can't shake it. Anyways, in GMC's and GM's infinite wisdom, hiring a marketing consultant, paying them more than 1,000 genuine warranty claims............they rename the GMC Suburban..............YUKON XL..............as the GMC version of the Tahoe is Yukon..............and by the way, it took years and $$$$, many $$$$ to change the name of Chevy Blazer to Tahoe and Jimmy to Yukon...................and you wonder why they are broke. Now go home and bow to your Camaro, and your Vette, as those are the last two gasps out of Chevy GM in years. |

The SS (commodore) is probably gonna be the next big flop from GM honestly only because of the sorry naming of the car. SS is a great moniker, but they should have called it something else, like caprice, impala, chevelle, etc. I'm sure any of those name plates would have made for well known and sought after replacements for simply "SS". |

I don't think SS as a trim is going anywhere.
With that said I think SS for the name of the new sedan is stupid but I want one regardless. I like the name Chevy Commodore! They brought over to Aussie land the Volt and just called it the Holden Volt, why not do the same bringing the Commodore over?

I'm googling it. Why can't I find a pic of the SS?
