That is just full of FAIL. Regarding stock 20's... That said anything else like some giant wheels or with a crazy offset. Then YES it could cause issues on the tranny, axles etc.. That could get it voided but, stock 20's on a car that can be ordered with them is nuts

Skilerb, I also called GM and asked if I make modifications to my Camaro, if it would avoid the warranty, She told me I can do whatever I like as long as the part I added does not cause a failure.

It like everything else. Since some idiots put 26" plus wheels on their Camaro. Then something breaks and they sue GM. So GM goes and says any aftermarket wheel voids warranty.

This is not a dealer issue. GM is now making people sign paperwork acknowledging that any wheel change from factory will void your warranty, look it up.

I even talked to GM customer service and they verified that. The dealer even showed me a memo to back it up. They say since I didn't buy a RS that they can't be changed. Has anyone else ran into this or know how to get around the GM bull?

Your dealer is walking a fine line to screw you over. Here is what I get from what you said, what he said and what I know.

You have a 1LT with 18" wheels, your Camaro has a speed limiter of 115mph. This is due to the tiers that came with your Camaro.

You want to go to 20"s which are rated for higher speeds. Camaros running 20" have a higher setting on the limiter.

Now comes the confusing part so stick with me. You want to go up to 20"s. But if you do that it will void your warranty, according to the dealer.

He may be telling you a half truth. If you get the 20" and don't get the limiter reset, that maybe grounds to void your warranty. "That an easy fix" you say. It is but the dealer is using a loophole to get you to buy 21" tires.

The dealer is trying to say that the Camaro comes stock with 20" if you get the RS pakage. So 20"s are stock not an upgrade if you want to upgrade you have to go to 21"s then he will reprogram the limiter.

You don't want 21"s you want 20"s but those are stock and stock on your car is 18". That is how he is trying to get you to buy 21"s.

What you need to do is find a new dealer that will sell you the 20"s and reprogram your car so that you stay in warranty.

Then you need to tell everyone you know not to go to that dealer that was trying to up-sale you on rims.

I did, under the Magnuson-Moss Act, ( This is a Law) a Dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repair, before it can deny warranty coverage.

No no no....

If the limiter is set at 118 all that means is he won't ever reach the highest MPH for the Pirelli 20s. He can put the 20s on and do nothing else..this dealer is absolutely full of shit.

I like and agree with almost everything said. It's been a lot of help. I will say my car is definetly not limited. I have had it up to 156 so far and only back out cause I was running out of runway. Yep I was on a local airport. I agree that due to sidewall being smaller on 20's that the amount of distance covered would be the same as my 18's so no recalibration needs to be done. I completely believe this is just a stupid scam they pull. So yes I will be looking for some 20's and also get the air sensors to work with the car. Also does anyone know the lug pattern for these rims? Also last question. I am thinking about adding a K&N cold air system and possibly a cat back exhaust system a little later. Has anyone added these products and what if any performance did you notice? Thank all of you. For all the helpful advice. Hope I can help all of you sometime. If you know of anyone selling 20's for my car let me know. Thanks.

I have a cam, headers, and intake on my car. I had the drive line replaced last December, paid by warranty. GM doesn't know about mods if the dealer doesn't tell them. That was what my dealer said and how they handled it.

156? holy cow, you have that thing supercharged I take it, the test between the Camaro SS and the Mustang on the salt flats that Car and Driver did couldnt get it above 147, with the Mustang doind 154......

So if its supercharged your warranty is void anyways.....

Stock SS will do 155 mph easy. With a tune to remove the limiter it will go even faster... Search this forum and you will see many posts about this.

On topic: Factory rims voiding a warranty.

I could see a poor set of aftermarket rims voiding a warranty but even then it would have to be an extreme case.
