Newer Z/28 owners homework assignment

Being a newer Z owner (purchased in Oct of 2019) I have a lot to learn. To accelerate my education I have started reviewing all previous threads from other owners. At this time I'm up to page 28 and WOW there is plenty of good info available. I'm already aware of the intake valve issue and of course the heater blend door problems but other nuisance issues are out there and can be fairly pricey to correct. For example I had no idea cleaners or tire dressings could damage the carbon ceramic rotors. I did not know that the seat belt can rub and wear the drivers seat excessively. My point is that if you have extra time on your hands right now take in some of this info and expand your Z/28 knowledge before something expensive is damaged. Take notes, there may be a quiz!

-don't use wheel/tire cleaners
-don't use the seat belt holders
-don't use automatic touch car washes

-use Sonax alcantara cleaner on seats/dash/steering/shifter
-take shift knob off to clean in warm water with dish soap, will look brand new after
-use toothbrush on alcantara steering wheel and shifter periodically to keep fibers standing up right and fresh
-let the oil warm-up to 175F+ before higher revs
-use pipe insulating foam on rotors when removing/installing wheels
-buy zl1 addon front rock guard and/or have ppf installed on rear qtr/flares

Wheel cleaners can damage carbon ceramic brakes. Just use car soap

Rub dishwashing liquid on your tires to get them black. Joy or Palmolive works just rub it in with a sponge or cloth

What I do or did:
Ceramic coating to protect paint (foam wash at home only)
Clear bra on front (Z/28 is a rock magnet)
Dishwash liquid for wheels only
Dishwash soap water and microfiber towel to clean steering, knob, & seats (feels new and looks new)

I use Red Line 75W90 GL-5 REAR GEAR OIL
I use Red Line D4 ATF MANUAL TRANSMISSION FLUID
So much smoother than the AC Delco
I use Mobil1 for Oil

ZL1 Addon Rock Guard (Z/28 is a rock magnet)
Tint to protect inside plus it's cooler in the summer
Get a good battery tinder when stored (Z/28 she loves to eat battery and drinks a lot of gas)

The LS7 valve issue is more on 09 to 11 z06s...I have an 09 Z06 with 12000 miles, and had at one time read every every thread on this issue. Hib Halverson has an article updated since our Z/28s made the scene. Our engine changes are in page 18 to 22 ( or so).

I also got a GM 7 year premium warranty just to be sure. So no work on mine until 2023. One last comment on CF, they have good information, but they love to post excessively.

Since the Zs are starting to get passed on to their 3rd, 4th (or more) owners I thought it would be a good idea to resuscitate this thread for newer owners and add a no-brainer I employed today while performing my wash ritual. Along with many other Z owners I remove the water tray from the hood. Of course for a wash I reinstall it with one of the annoying little retainer pins. As luck would have it I dropped one piece down into the engine bay. Oh s#!t. Got lucky, it was on the rad support so no big deal. Then it occurred to me: throw down a big towel so if I fumble-finger again I won't end up playing an aggravating game of "Where's Waldo?". Plenty of you guys may already do this but sometimes I'm late to the party.

Rocks are kicked up to my mirror from front tire! This car defies gravity.

Did you get short or long rock guards? I see only fronts online.

Thanks.
