From first hand experience, it will handle a lot more than 500 HP. The torque converter is the weak link. I have seen more than 650 RWHP about 780 HP with no problems.

And yes, if you add a higher stall torque converter without reprograming the ECU and TCU, all that will happen is the TM will kick in sooner limiting your performance gain. With sticky tires on a GTO, Camaro, and Corvette, 60' times with a stock converter VS high stall, there is typically a 4 tenth gain. I have seen little to no gain until the TM was progammed out. So as long as you get it programmed with good software that has most if not all the TM tables found, you will be fine. The manuals have it too. Most hand held programmers are garbage. HP Tuners currently make the best software for reprograming. |

my bad, i said the cadillac CTS-V had the 6L80E trans also,, but it doesnt, it has the 6L90E that is a heavier duty version of the 6L80E and is about 40mm longer than the 6L80E
so if the 6L80E doesnt hold up well with the higher hp numbers a 6L90E swap should cure the problem also here is some ineresting info on the 6L90E trans in the CVS-V, it will only start in first gear for the first key cycle forward movement, this is to check the first gear range and the low gear ratio is then no longer used for forward take-offs. when in manual mode the driver can select first gear and the gear range is displayed on the driver info center also the 6L90E cts-v trans is electronically limited to 175 mph i will be going with a vig converter and i have hp tuners to deal with the tm
