Maybe a Dumb Question? Why Are Superchargers So Expensive?

I am really curious what there is about superchargers that makes them so expensive?

Like Birm said and to expand on that... Lots of research goes into them... they are a specialty item, certainly not necessary... and people will charge what the market allows... In a hot new much desired car like the 5th Gen, they will be pricey... but not excessively so to my knowledge...

I think it's all supply and demand. Niche market, all of what everyone has mentioned already. I've always wondered the same, seems like you don't get a whole lot for $5,000+ considering you can buy a used vehicle for that much money.

But that used vehicle isn't going to be as much fun!

Ya but why is it say if I were to get a supercharger say for a new 5.0 mustang and the same one for a camaro ls3 ss it's so much more for the camaro even if u compare older model such as a 2002 mustang compared to a 2002 camaro the camaros are so much more. Why? Does that much differance in price really have to do with the smaller displacement engine in the mustangs compared to the camaro

There is an insane amount of R& D that goes into producing something like a supercharger.
I know that the eaton rotors in the TVS are not cheap... Then factor in the labor hours to machine the pieces & assemble them. I think SLP has it right by offering their new supercharger system at 6750...

The reason the mustang supercharger is cheaper is because it is a front drive. Compare apples to apples and it will work out to be right about the same.

Having just installed the TVS2300 kit i can see why they are up there in price. The blower itself is a precision part with sub .001" tolerances and high strength metals. I'm guessing that alone would be worth $2500-$3000. More than a rear differential which is close but not quite the level of tech of the blower head unit. Then add in the manifold and intercooler, heat exchanger, pump, injectors, SCT tuner and all the other stuff. and I can easily see why they are priced the way they are.
