Car hauler questions
I figured this sub forum would be appropriate to ask these questions since most of y'all haul to tracks. I just got my new truck and am thinking about a car hauler to do some events without risk of getting stuck far from home and giving the camaro a break. What length hauler do y'all recommend to keep tongue weight down to 600-800lbs? 16',18',20'? 6000lbs trailer/car @10-15% tongue weight. I've been looking at big Tex and pj trailers with treated wood boards. Not looking to spend more than $2500.

I have a 16' trailer. Tongue weight will depend on where you place the car over the axles. My axles are slightly rearward of the trailers center so the car sits back a couple feet from the front. Biggest thing I think would pose a problem is trailer width, the car it pretty wide. I think my trailers is 79" wide and I have about 2" to spare on each side.

18' with 3' dove tail. Get ramp extenders or you will drag the front bumper when loading and offloading.

I think tilt beds start from 18ft; I do have the 18ft model. I loaded Camaro on my former 16.6ft flatbed trailer before switching to this one, and it was barely long enough to properly load Camaro.

Thanks for the picture. It really is worth a thousand words. Most of the trailers i've looked at online are 18' dovetails. How long are your ramps? I've seen some with 4' and 5' ramps. I would think the 5' would be easy to load without high centering. The 4' has me nervous.

Are there any issues opening the drivers door contacting tires or fender on a
lowered car?

Get an 18 footer at a minimum. Gives you room to mount a tool box, tire rack, etc. I've owned an H&H 18' tilt bed dovetail for 15 years and it's still a great trailer despite a ton of abuse. Also spring for heavy axles and get an equalizer hitch if the tongue gets heavy or your truck sags (safety first). Long ramps a must for low cars.
