Mid way through iceolator install

We'll I'm about half way through the install and I knew going into it I had mice problems. It's been throwing a engine 2 and/or 4 cylinder misfire code, so after I took it in GM told me a had a mouse in the intake and wanted $550 to pull apart and clean it! I said no thanks I'll do it myself and bought the Iceoltaor to do at the same time well here I am. Just unsure what to do with the situation the mouse seems to have chewed away the gasket here and the valves are just coated with gunk. Just looking for some opinions on how to fix it.

Well for the valves get some seafoam and start scrubbing ! I have seen worse on direct injection. Then get a catchcan and a clean side separator and this will stop this from happening.

You'd be surprised how many cars I've had to repair because of mice damage. It happens a lot! and they can do some serious damage too.

It has about 66000 kms on it and what would I use to scrub it with soft or hard brush? And I don't believe the mouse was actually inside the intake but as you can see ate the gasket that protects that connector. Also I have a rx catch can installed and I'm still seeing lots of oil build up in the intake between the throttle body and intake filter

Spray on the seafoam and brush them down with a stiff brush. Try to not let the build up get into the cylinders if possible.

The black "felt" is more a heat barrier/noise reducer I believe. I don't think it will effect the sealing of your iceolator.

The oil you're seeing is probably coming from the "clean side" line that enters the air intake tube midway to the throttle body. Perhaps, like many folks, you need a catch can for that side as well.

I have seen worse valves than this. the amount you have certainly will not stop this engine from running. If you can perform a sea foam, go for it. Be carefully doing any scrubbing as you do not want any of that to get into the cylinder. Personally I would just leave it.

You have a catch can, time to fix the clean side. block of the rear port (see photo) the port inside your CAI (I have the INJEN see photo). Install a 1LE oil separator, (see photo, I have one from RX)

The foam is a noise reduction insulator, no problem just removing all of it and cleaning up the valve covers if you choose to do so.

Install the iceolator and enjoy.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll have to reroute my catch can when I get it all back together but none of this would cause a code to be thrown for a misfire would it? Also should I replace the gasket the mouse had chewed or will it have no affect?

dont mean to tread jack but hows the 1LE separator workin?? better than the breather?

I was looking at the photos again and I am not sure on that gasket. I compared it to mine and think maybe it would be best to replace that gasket if it is that badly torn up and covers that wire section you see in your photo. As for throwing codes, you should not throw any codes after the install. Disconnect the battery for a few hours, (can be done from under the hood). This will help clear the codes and reset things. Try running it again.


As for the other question, I have not had a chance to run it with the new oil separator as I installed it just as I went into storage. I will give some reports after I get it back out and put it on the road.

Going back to the catch can quickly when I had it at GM they told me it would be better off to run without the oil breather than it would with, but I can remember the reason why maybe back pressure or something if that makes any senses?

The breather has been at the root of many controversies for a while now.

You do not need to run the breather. Just leave the clean side hooked up as from the factory. Or you can disconnect it and maybe look into the RX oil separator, similar to the 1LE separator.

I just got an RX separator, well made and no unmetered air entering the system.
