Lower engine eh? I don't pretend that any of us here can guarantee just by hearing a video that it's not lower end noise we are hearing, but it surely doesn't sound like it in the video.

Definitely a smart move getting a second opinion. I hope for your sake it is all up top and minimal.

Well typically you are looking at valvetrain noise or rod knock or a piston is cracked/broken noise. If you are mechanically inclined you can pretty find out if it is a valvetrain failure by removing the valve covers. look for a pushrod the can move up and down while the piston is at TDC that will tell you if a lifter has completely collapsed. look for a broken valve spring which would also cause a loose rocker arm. pulling the covers is pretty easy and a pretty quick check. a borescope with the spark plugs removed and you might get a good look at the tops of the pistons and see if a chunk is missing out of them. A stethoscope is handy too to try and pinpoint the area the noise is coming from.

I don't know and wasn't there but yea seemed like the tech today did or out minimum effort into it. Basically didn't do any of what you guys told me to do. Or he didn't share with me that he had. He only spent about 30 minutes on it I do know that. The hell if I know but my buddy had said them same as you he definitely doesn't believe it's lower half. The plus is GPI has allready said it's still under warranty of thier work if it's anything related.

If they didn't pull the rocker covers that is a complete bs diagnosis and $3400 for teardown is insane. They do not know what they are doing. Don't go back to that shop.

What he said.

30 minutes isn't enough time to definitively say it's in the bottom end.

Thank you two for the post. Really got my morning going well. Today's trip will most likely be going to a exhaust shop. The more I've read on here and seen videos I'm leaning towards the leak. I've seen a few videos that sounded worse than mine. After a few weeks and pulling the rods, roclers, and lifters etc the guy got it back together tool it to exhaust shop and they found the leak. Also its the cheapst and fastest fix so that could be why I wanna believe too. Greenhornet this place also made me create a thread about a stall converter and really decided they where wrong. Just the closest place and a Chevy dealership but yea if they are wrong not gonna be doing anything there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, stay away from dealerships if it's not warranty work.

Cool, glad to hear it wasn't something catastrophic.
