Idles HIGH
Can anyone help me out.. My husband taught me how to fix my camaro as the problems came to surface. My 1LE sat in garage for abt 3 mnths, longer than anticipated. She had no engine problems when I parked her & i disconnect the battery for that time period. She was getn a full vinyl wrap and my husband passed in the process. it took me 3 months to finish & I connected battery & chngd serpentine belt. Started her up & started w/no problem but idled very high (RPM in 2,000 to 3,000) 4 abt 5 to 10 sec then wld idle dn to normal i left running for abt 30 minute to run that old gas so fill the tank up. In 1st &2nd idled very high (even when i didnt give it gas) until abt 45 mph To downshift it wld idle hi in th 3s until i came to a complete stop and it wld idle for abt 5 sec and go to normal. I took off and cleaned the throttle body but it still is doing the same thing? Any ideas of what the problem is?

Welcome & sorry about the passing of you husband. You may want to try an idle relearn procedure. This can be done without the proper scan tool as well.
The engine control module (ECM) learns the airflow through the throttle body to ensure the correct idle. The learned airflow values are stored within the ECM. These values are learned to adjust for production variation and will continuously learn during the life of the vehicle to compensate for reduced airflow due to coking. Anytime the throttle body airflow rate changes, for example due to cleaning or replacing, the values must be relearned. A vehicle that had a heavily coked throttle body that has been cleaned or replaced may take several drive cycles to learn out the coking. To accelerate the process, the scan tool has the ability to reset all learned values back to zero. A new ECM will also have values set to zero. The idle may be unstable or a DTC may set if the learned values do not match the actual airflow.
