6th Gen shifter on 5th gen?

Hey guys, so my shift knob on my 1le has gone to shit...again.. and I was wondering if there is any way the 6th gen shift knob and boot possibly would fit on ours. Pics below.

From what I've seen, the set screw that holds the knob on, 6th gen is on the left, 5th is on the right. The set screw just hits the metal shaft so it a possibility it would fit. I'm not sure if the little plastic ring would snap back up. You may be able to make it would if you did the 6th gen boot and knob reusing the 5th gen plastic that holds the boot.

I upgraded to a MGW when my OE knob got messed up. I had the race knob and ended up liking the ball better for daily driving.

That’s what I was thinking of doing! If I get the boot and shift and reusing the rest, just not sure if the boot bolts up the same
