DIY Brake Calipers Rotors and Line Removal

Hi everyone tore down my brakes today for paint and upgrades!!!

Tools Needed!

Impact Gun or 1/2 in breaker bar

7/8's or 22mm socket

18mm socket

10mm socket

30 star bit

13mm line wrench

18mm wrench

11mm wrench

Pilers

Hammer

Small Drift Punch

1/2 in and 3/8 in rachets

Lowrider Jack my Camaro is lowered almost 2in

4 2 ton jackstands

Step One: Jack up car and support with jack stands

Step Two: Take off wheels

Step Three: Remove brake lines 11mm wrench on cailper and 10mm on the hold down 13mm line wrench where it connects to the hardline also need the pilers to remove retaining clip that holds the rubber line in place for the hard line

Step Four: Remove cailper pins small drift punch and a hammer do wonders then pull out gently on the pins with pilers holding brake pads

Step Five: Remove brake pads pull or push out pads should move easily!!!

Step Six: Remove 18mm bolts that hold Caliper and remove Cailper the 18mm bolts were tight might need a breaker bar or impact gun I had to use an 18mm wrench on the rear bottom bolt because my coilovers resivors were in the way

Step Seven: Remove star screw from rotor and pull off rotor 30 star bit turns out easy

Step Eight: Repete three more times!!!!!!!!!

Takes about 1/2 hour to hour plus I was doing the DIY pics!!!

Few weeks and I will do a reassemble with new parts!!

What is the picture showing the drum brakes.? Is that the emergency brake? Why is it only on one side? Just curious. i will be changing out my calipers tomorrow for my new powdercoated calipers.

If I just want to paint my calipers, how much of your DIY instructions do I need to do? How long will my car be out of commission (i.e. paint drying, etc.). Mine's a daily driver, but if the downtime is just for a weekend, I can do that, I think.. Thankx, Lori

If your painting them with a bush they can remain on the Camaro if your haveing them painted or powder coated to matched your Camaros color than you just need step one to six!!!!!!
Here is a link to paint that is brushed on!!!!!

Thanks, Great write up and pics! Im taking my calipers off in a week or 2 to send them off for powder coating, when the hoses are disconnected, how do you stop the fluid leakage?

Cheers

That's a good question. I just replaced my calipers this weekend with new Powdercoated calipers. I did a core exchange deal with Mike The Powdercoater. So I had the new ones and the old were still on the car. After swapping thenout I send him back the old calipers.

Not sure how you would plug the lines for any length of time, to be able send the calipers out and wait for them to come back.

ANYBODY ELSE KNOW?
