Ran out of gas, now car hesitates on accerelation
So basically, that sums it up. I drove home after getting the low fuel light (16 Miles), stopped at my Mom's (a mile out of my route home) and drove straight to the gas station (.5 miles away from my house).
I ran out of gas just as i was passing my house. I put gas in it (premium of course) and she started right up. However, on acceleration, ive noticed a definite hesitation. Its not in every gear, and not all the time, but its definitely there. It's the first thing i noticed after drivng her that night, nearly right away. I did a fuse pull, and it made the car peppier, but didnt solve it. Any ideas????

Engine not getting enough fuel from the pump probably? I've seen some cases where starving the pump wrecked it. I'd head to the dealer if you're under warranty.

You might have sucked some trash from the bottom of your gas tank. Might just need a new fuel filter.

Could be, but I don't think they go all the way to the bottom of tanks like you might think and the cars aren't all that old...but, yeah, running out is definitely bad for the pump...shouldn't be too hard for the dealer to do a fuel pressure test...

I'll never understand why people refuse to put gas in their car. see at least one everyday that ran out.

The fuel pump could be damaged. Cars use gas to cool the pump. Running out of gas overheats it.
Have your fuel pressure checked. |

I agree about not understanding why people let their cars run out. it costs the same to fill up the top half/quarter whatever of the tank as it does the bottom half. I mean unless you're working on a "mr. fusion" at home to go along with your flux capacitor and it's almost ready, I see no reason to try and "wait it out"...
as for the OP I'm thinking he fried the pump. like it has already been mentioned, these cars are too new to get trash like rust or whatever accumulated at the bottom of the tank. better go down to dealer and have him look it over. they'll likely just replace under warranty. |

I didn't even know there was a warning when it gets to a 30 mile range. I have always filled mine up when it's at a 1/4 tank.

always start with the cheapest repair, NEW FILTER. if you problem continues you can rent a fuel pressure gauge from auto zone and test it or if under warranty take to dealer. Just try the cheapest route first. Never let your car go on E again, when you do that you pick up all the crap that some how ends up in the fuel talk.
I have herd on some occasions with other vehicles air in the fuel lines needs to be purged but these new cars shouldn't half to be. |

I don't think I've ever let mine reach 3/4 yet. not that I care if it goes lower, but I like to fill up all my cars once a week. don't want to ever get stuck with all of them on empty at the same time. I have no desire to spend 200 or more on gas in one week.

I don't smoke , drink , or do drugs , but i get a high when the fuel light turns on on the working truck , i tend to push it to go to the next gas station , then the next after that , i know that one day it will happen , but till then , it's fun doing that , just like KREMER did on the JERRY SEINFELD show
