I know the manual for the v6 says to use regular, but i find it odd that the compression ratio is higher for the v6 than it is the v8. Doesn't the v8 recommend premium?

I run 93 octane in mine when I am ready to take on a Mustang. Other than that I run 89.

The V6 car was built to run on 87 octane. Running it higher isn't give you any added bonus to the car, you are just throwing your money away.

I recommend the mid grade, Chevron or any other "cleaner" gasoline. I've tried all three for a spell, and prefer the mid grade. You can feel a difference.

Bottom right hand corner is the Knock Retard... with 87 Octane the knock sensors are VERY ACTIVE! This is just cruising around! Not even getting on the throttle very hard!!
So while the car may run on 87 octane it doesn't appear to be living up to its full potential, especially if it is constantly pulling timing... I run premium and the knock sensors basically sits at zero...

I run 91 on my V6, mpg went up by 2mpg from 87, the engine sounds less raspy also, and I trust scrming about the knock sensors

I mostly run 89 on mine, and when i go back to 87 i do notice a drop in power from the engine., from now on ill be filling up with 91. and see what happens.
after all the manual says 87 minimum, but it does not state a maximum. |

yep, just look at diesel. twice the BTUs of premium gas and less than half the octane rating.

what scrming saying is accurate. i built a few cars some turbo some all motor. higher the octane the slower it burns. slower it burns cooler it is. cooler temps=more power and less knock. and u should always get better mpg with high octane, again becasue it burns slower.
