Hi guys I really don't know much about wheels and tires and I had a couple of questions.

I bought some wheels from Craigslist and the tires on the wheels are 255/35r20 for the front, the rear tires need replacing. What I wanted to know was how small can I go with the rear tires and how big of a gap do 255/35r20 tires leave on a stock non lowered car?

I was also thinking of possibly going with 245/45r20 for the rear so the height difference wouldn't be so much. What do you recommend. Otherwise, my other thoughts were to just swap the stock 245/45r20 for the front and buy 275/40r20 for the rear. My current rear tires need to be replaced on my stock wheels so I would need to buy them for the new wheels anyways.

Please help a girl out and prevent any unnecessary damage to my car because of my lack of knowledge. Thanks.

You've got different wheel widths and that may not work, I would not personally put the 245's on the back and definitely not put the 255 35 20" on the front, they are to short. This is going to set your traction control or stability light going crazy.

What i Did to save money on tires is get some SUV BMW X5 Bridgestone tires 275 40 20 (Front) and Goodyear Eagles 295 40 20 (Back) from Economy tire store, they sell pull offs. You might even look around where you are at and find a store that does pull offs.

This is no means right my car, but i did save money and the car does not have any issues.

Of course I'm probability going to get blasted for this.

REAR should be wider if you're going staggered (dif. Sizes front and rears). What sizes.wheels are you running?

The wheel size is 20x8.5

Are all your rims 8.5? If so go with a square setup. As in all tires same size.
