How to replace lumbar spring?

What is the best way to replace the lumbar springs in the from seats? My driver side broke, I got the new spring but am having trouble with changing it. I tried to go in through the back of the seat but can not get the top connection. It seems like you have to go in the front of the seat. In order to do this it seems that the cover is strapped in the bottom and you have to take the seat out to access this. Am I right?

What is the best way to replace the spring, can it be done with the seat in the car?

You'd notice the difference pretty quick but first you hear it pop if it breaks.

Yes, that's exactly it. The part cost me about $16 but I just can't figure out how to install without taking out the seat which I would like to avoid.

This happened to me as well. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty. I was told they had to take material off of the seat and weld a new lumbar support into the seat frame...since then its been really stiff. I'll never buy a car without adjustable lumbar again.

I had to do this today. I have a new upper and lower seat cover, had to replace the lumbar support as well as the foam back pad. Attached is the old and the new lumbar support. I had to remove the seat from the car, then remove the seat cover and disconnect the airbag from the seat. Remove the foam back pad and it's easy to take out the old lumbar support, a little more difficult to attach the new one. I used some needle nose pliers to get it all installed.

Thanks for the pics Jer. Question, how do you get the seat leather cover to go off over the part where you insert the headrest?

Just did that a few days ago-you actually just pull the leather out from under it by hand

Sorry for a late response, I've been on other forums a lot instead of here.

Best place I've found for GM parts is gmpartsdirect.com
