[QUOTE=Irnwkrkev;7595903]Anyone here with any 1st hand issues from wrapped stainless headers?
I would like to hear or see about ACTUAL failures and not just internet advice because they read it somewhere. +1

Wait, so it is a heat soak issue that causes timing to be pulled?
I figured it was for lowering under hood temps, which would lead to lower air intake charge temps...

Call any an all exhaust header manufacturers. Ask them if they will honor their product warranty if you wrap your headers. Then report back here what you learn.
Hint: As a former performance exhaust system manufacturer, I can tell you that the entire industry will answer this question with the same answer.

Chevrolet doesn't warranty your motor if you install a cam but that doesn't mean it's going to blow up.

All I know is this rust out bs is entertaining. I had heat wrapped the stainless crossover on my turbo buick years ago and after about 4 years it left tracks in the metal and started to etch in pretty hard. 4years. If you are only going to have the car a couple years, do it. If it's a long time car...nope.

Well the warranty means nothing after a few years. If it helps that a cheap mod compared to other thing. I say let the wrapping begin.

There is power in properly wrapping headers but its only marginal over coatings. Not worth the negatives that come along with it like header damage. Any time you can retain heat in the exhaust you will make more power.

I've had no issues with cracks on my mild steel headers for 7 years. I just rewrapped them last winter with the black wrap. There was some etching in a few places but no problems with/near the welds. However these are on a small car with a tiny engine compartment that's driven only on nice days.
Does stainless expand differently than mild steel? |
