Dealer cut my new key wrong

Decide to get a new key since my 1LE only came with one key when I bought it. I purchased the correct key from amazon and took it to my local dealer to get it cut. The guy at the counter took my key and I told him I had my VIN# so he could cut it correctly. He said that he did not need it...so on he went to cut it. I did not check the key till I got home and turns out that the key was wrongly made...paid 27 bucks for the service. Now I don't even know if they would replace my key (not the remote) for free since it was his **** up AND not mine.

I would go back to the dealer and talk to them about it. They should replace the blade with one cut correctly in my opinion. I had no idea they could cut a key without the vin.

I went back and he cut 3 more keys, all looked the same.
so they got with GM and finally got a code....get this.

still WRONG!

so I told the parts guy that his machine probably needs an adjustment.

The key that was cut with the GM code was close, but not close enough to match my key. They are denying that they need to adjust their machine, and told me that more than likely someone changed out my ignition lock cylinder and the door lock cylinder with a different Chevy key...LOL
I don't even think that is possible and still work?

So how likely is it that they got an ignition lock cylinder with a matching lock cylinder and installed it on mine? Thought that the computer would lock it out...would a lock Smith be a better option now to cut a key?

Also, dealer refused to give me my money back and instead just gave me a replacement blade...bs

Got any local Lexus dealerships? When I worked at Lexus we had a key tracing machine that could trace those super easy. We didn't charge anything for it, either.

Otherwise any locksmith worth a cent will have a sidecut machine, too.

no Lexus dealership here :(

now that you mention the trace machine, same dealer traced the first cut and it did not make an exact copy, same reason i was telling the parts guy that his machine needed some adjusting.

Good luck.

Glad to know the potential pitfalls in advance of doing this.
