I will admit. Cops can get a TON of overtime pay. Every time I step foot into court for a case...even if it is for 5 minutes. I automatically get 3 hours overtime.

Always ask to see how fast they clocked you at on the roadside to avoid paying lazy cop tickets.

My bf was a LEO in Tampa and didnt have a speed gun. He would follow right behind the speeder for 1 mile to determine their speed. This is how he was able to record and prove how fast they were traveling. Yes he couldve lied but he couldnt just say "well looked like he was traveling at 75mph but I dunno" wo some kind of proof. GPS in his car couldve determined if he was lying if they really wanted to push the issue.
Sorry Angie, that may be the was in Indiana but not everywhere does the officer have to show the violator the reading. At least we were trained to "track" speeds of the violator and this will result in the reading not being locked in on the device. By tracking, I mean was the violator's speed increasing or decreasing as he was approaching, did he or she slam on the brakes suddenly when they realized an officer was present those kinds of things can become important when testifying in court. If I have the reading still on the device, I will show it to the person if they ask but I am not required and sometimes if they want to get s----y about it I will show them and then write them a "full ride" ticket. I've never lost one in 10 years.

Here is my story. As above I was driving in my lifted Jeep Wrangler which barely gets out of it own way, anyway, a cop is in the far right lane. I slowly pass by him as well as a few cars in front of me. He waits about 4-5 miles, pulls me over and says "is there a reason you are doing 80mph?" I say are you kidding me, my Jeep starts shaking at 66mph and I know there is no way it can go 80. After all it is a Chrysler......duh. He gives me a warning because I am a Firefighter/Paramedic and says I need to get my speedo checked because he was doing 70 when I "blew" past him........my question is, if you pass a cop will they pull you over every time for speeding?

As someone else said, if you have bigger off road tires on your Jeep, than most likely your speedo is off.....most of the time its around 9 mph depending on the tire size.....

Passing a police car is usually not too smart of an idea. That being said, it happens quite often to me in my town. The main highway going thru is 6 lanes wide. I usually will pace traffic at 5 over just to keep things going and there are alot of locals that know we don't pull over for less than 15 over so they think its okay to pass a rolling police car at less than that....depending on how fast they go by me I will pull them over or at least pull up next to them and make sure they know their speed is not acceptable . I was just brought up this way.....its disrespectful to pass a police car if he is doing the speed limit....
