SEAFOAM would you put it in oil?
I got this thing about additive's. Things to clean injectors added into the gas tank, I think that's OK. BUT, additives to the engine oil to clean sludge off of parts in the motor... That scares me. I feel these things to some extent lessen the lubricating properties of oil.

Case in point, I have a 2012 camaro SS 45th with 2538 miles on it. I do not see myself adding a catch can. I have once used seafoam in the gas tank at 2500 miles. I would be real hesitant to add this to the engine oil for fear of some small degree of loss of lubrication.

The directions on the can of seafoam say its ok to add to oil to keep the motor clean and free of sludge and that it can be added every 2000 to 5000 miles for a clean engine.

Well what's your personal opinion or real life experience with this added to oil??

Don't put anything in your car other than gas and oil....no additives...it shouldn't need any..most gas has additives t o keep the fuel system clean....never put anything in the oil...it too has all your engine needs....most of the shelf type additives give false hope of a miracle ....high mileage cars hoping for a new engine in a bottle...ain't happening

How much sludge do you think your 2500 mile car really has?

There is absolutely no need for any kind of oil additives on a new car.

I know what seafoam is and I personally wouldn't add it to my oil as I don't know for sure that it wouldn't reduce it's ability to work. That said when I do the ls3 conversion and cam upgrade I will be adding a catch can

In a car with over 100k yeah put it in the fuel tank and some in the brake booster line, I've done it and it helped clean the insides out in my 2000 LS1. In a car with less than 3k???? No lol you don't have enough wear on the engine to need seafoam, injector cleaner from chevron yeah but not seafoam

I used it in my 2000 Firebird Formula at about 80K miles. Only left it in for about 500 miles then had the oil changed during a service visit at my dealer. My SA came to me and said a whole lot of sludge came out with the oil. Guess it worked.

Use high quality synthetic oils and name brand gasoline. You might, MIGHT, want to put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas at 100K, but do not put anything in your oil. You should have no sludge at this point in your engine's life anyway. Seafoam is more harsh than Marvel. Don't do it.

I have a 2011 2SS that I bought in 2016, after my first oil change from a Chevy dealer it ticks when I start it and runs hotter (looking at the tac) someone told me I should use Marvel Mystery oil in the engine, my beast now has 41,500 miles on what do you think? my 1st car at 16 was a 1968 SS with a 327 corvette engine in it, i learned a lot about engines growing up, and i am telling you that the oil isn't thick enough, i bought my car from (of all places) a Dodge dealership and it ran like the awesome Beast it is until my first oil change and they will not listen to me at the chevy dealerships because i believe 1. i am a female and 2. i am a blonde .... i called chevy's corporate office and he is like please do not take it back to Dodge, so now i am on my 3rd Chevy dealership and my car still TICKS!!!!!! wtf H E L P !!!!!

Don't put Marvel Mystery Oil in your car!!! What viscosity did the dealership put in and did they put enough in? Have you checked the dipstick? What does it say?

OP, we can argue the merits or pitfalls of Seafoam all day. I have used it in the past on a 100K mile plus Duramax with inconclusive results. Not bad, not great, just not sure. You have a 6 year old motor with 2500 miles on it. Why would you even think you need that type of internal motor cleaning? That motor is barely broken in. How many oil changes does the motor have under it? For a low mileage motor like that, I would be more concerned about leaving used oil inside for long periods of time without having it get up to temp to burn off moisture.


Personally, I wouldn't waste the time or money on an additive.
