after 10 years plus not a Discount Tire Fan anymore..

So I was given the bs of you can't run 285 30 21 or 245 35 21.. lower profile tires which give you a lower price and more selection than the stock 275 35 21 & 245 40 21..

I have been running that size for ever and not the factory recommended. . He comes up with bs about load index is to low 100 for front and 103 for rear because thats what the original tires say.. I guarantee that there going by spec off the tire vs actually figuring it..

The manual SS weights 3900 lbs the tires I want have a load index of 96 for the front which is 1565 lbs.. so this its under by 4 which which is 200lbs less.. now chevy chose the perrelli because it road better less hard because of the higherr profile... everyone knows that a higher profile tire will fold over vs a lower profile. And bulges more under load. hes tring to tell me that the side walls will burst!

But load index is calculated by the weight of the vehicle divided by 4 so theoretically the tires need a capacity of 1000 lbs the tires ade rated at 6200lbs.. its stated on discount tire site how to figure it..

Yet just because his gd computer says thats the index it came with thats what we have to put on..

Im just gonna mail order and take them some place else!

All you do is tell them it's for another lighter vehicle. It's not their fault, it's a liability issue.

I usually dont buy from them but will have my tires mounted there becasue its the closest place. I'll take the rims and tires in minus the center caps. Most of the guys there couldn't tell a Camaro rim from an offroad buggy rim. They always ask what its for and I tell them point blank "none of their business". The last set I had mounted the guy must have asked four times and I told him "I'm really not telling you". He finally gave up. For the Camaro I have been buying from Tire Rack. They will sell you what ever you want.

Im pretty sure those are the exact same sizes that I am running on my 21s...I know my fronts are about an 1" less in diameter than stock. No one so much as gave me a second glance. I had the rears mounted at the dealership and the fronts mounted at Tires Plus.

2001 weighs around 3400-3500lb, curb weight. Do you mean GVWR? Gen 5 weighs around 3800-3900, curb weight. And about 4650 GVWR. Plus these are static weights. Liability for the them to knowingly put the wrong tire on your vehicle.

Yep, they have to worry about liability. But, I have never had a tire shop not sell me what I want. They go through the motions so they can say they advised me, then give me what I want.

I used to work for discount tire and we used to do that, then they started firing people for that. Sometimes you dont have a choice but to follow the rules on the load range index for your car if you dont want loose your job. Hated customers like the O/P if they can't do it go somewhere else its not that hard!

I think people forget to factor in that it's not just GVWR divided by 4. Weight on the tires shifts around as you corner and brake. And if I recall correctly, load rating on a tire is at the max inflation.

Was waiting for this to come up! The new Z28 is the mother of all cornering cars correct? 305/30ZR 19 Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires load range 101, mine is 103..

proves my point they don't do the math and read whats on the sidewall and go with what the factory recommends!

What the idiot also said that if you had aftermarket rims we can put what ever you want on..

Get this I just called discount tire direct.. and played stupid told them I was building a street rod and using 21 x8.5 rims, and 21 x 9.5 rims... told him my cars weight was 4000lbs...

I said ya was thinking about the Nitto Invo are they gonna carry the load on those rims.. He said " oh god yes, typically what we do on is divide by 4 and add 1000 so yes your well with in the load range on those rims and tires"

going by the front tire only sine the back can handle 200lbs more the 21 inch 96y load can handle 6400lbs, with my ass in it and the 1000lb add on its 5000lb

I took your advice I showed up with rims and tires and said I needed these lifetime mounted and balanced... He asked me what they went on and I told him none of your business.. OMG you should of seen the look on his face.. he was like ok..

It got done.. I also got the new balance style with the roller pressed on the rim and tire to match the low spot of the rim with the high spot of the tire or vice versa..

What a difference at over 100
