This pretty well nails it.

Shady, I think moving to 3.91's bump the rpms in every gear a noticeable amount, Jbrown and some others posted some info another thread (thanks again guys).

I'm not sure if Speed Inc. does gear swaps but you could ask them and they are a sponsor on here too. tom@speedinc.com

I have a L99 whippled with LT headers and a 2800 stall daily driver that occasionally goes down the strip. What gears do you recommend?

At one time I had my NHRA license to run a full bodied car to 7.99. A friend let me borrow his car to make al the runs to get licensed. I never had the money to build a car quicker than my homebuilt small block 9 second 1962 Chevy II.

An M6 differential would be just the ticket running 540 LB/FT of torque. The guys going way up the torque values are the ones having to upgrade. Keep an eye on the classifieds.

If I was not having to save property tax money, I'd sell you my gears. I've only got 1500 miles on the clock. Too bad I cannot afford to buy and have installed, the 3.73s I'd like to have

I did 3.91's. I don't think I'd do them if I had a supercharger.

But I plan to do heads and cam.

Same here in my L99 -- I'm doing similar mods Pro Stock John is doing -- no FI in my plans either.

If I was going the power adder route, I would not do gears until later.

I did 410s and so far and love them, but did clutch at same the same time so cant really get after yet (break of clutch 500 miles). I'm just basic bolt ons and cammed (.236/.242) and don't plan on FI, if so I'll probably regret the 410s and have to down size..

Weekend Warrior

Have a 2010 SS Automatic that I drive only on weekends granted weather is good (no rain); Burnt rear up at track, so time to do new locker and gear; what would be the disadvantage of the 3.91? Not worried about fuel mileage, Trans is already turned for shift points along with car. I don't see 150rpms being a big deal!! Help an old circle tracker out... LOL

Thumbs up NEW GEARS

Had the 3.91's installed Friday nite, drove the car Saturday and love the gears. Now just to get the tranny set right (@67 I'm doing 55), Hit the interstate and doing 70-75; rpm's where around 2100 (give or take); gas mileage went down some, but I didn't buy the car to save money on gas..
