After Market Torque Converter

Are any of you running an after market torque converter after installing a new cam on your auto SS? If so what brand do y'all recommend for running the vvt-4 cam that TSP offers? Also any reccomendations for parts to go along with this upgrade would be greatly appreciated.

I am already running with K&N Blackhawk intake with Speed Engineering Long tubes and an SCT tuner.

SCT Tuner is nowhere near set up to handle a stage 4 cam, unless the tuner sent you a tune to load into the SCT.

That being said, TSP told me that for a VVT4 cam they would recommend a 3600-3800 stall converter.

As far brand I recommend Circle D, call them and tell them your setup and your goals they will help you get the correct converter.

As I understand, any tuning shops using SCT Livewire can load their custom tune onto the SCT Tuner.

Why is everyone so dead set on Circle D? I know they make great converters, but so do Precision Industries and Yank. Your stall speed should be 500rpm below peak tq. If it'sike most LSx engines with a meaty cam, then your tq peak is gonna be in the area of 4800+ rpm. So you should have a 4000 to 4200 stall. Any of these 3 brands listed will be a great upgrade. Make sure you get a triple disc lockup model to enable wot lockup to increase your mph on the big end.

I have a 3200 Cirlce D stall for my set up. Works great. But like Reddevil said there are a few different choices.

Vvt4 and circle d 1e

Previously had FTI 3200 on tsp vvt2. Both worked great but circle d converters are putting down some good 60' times

Another Circle D here, 3600 stall and SFI flexplate w/ARP bolts. Answered Brian's questions and they built one for the Camaro, great company to do business with. I ditched the VVT and went with a 3 bolt Cam Motion low lash solid roller cam (235/244 0.64x/0.62z) with Jesel shaft mounted rockers, very quiet valvetrain noise and this engine really likes to spin, no loss in low end torque compared with factory VVT.

VVT cams in general make good power, but they're not gonna make the power a LLSR will. If the tq peak is astronomically highike most LSx cammed engines are, then a 4000+ stall will be ideal. Really just depends though on the entire setup. As stated, call any of the big 3, Yank, Precision Industries or Circle D, give them your entire rundown and they will build a converter suited for you. Make sure you get a triple disc lock up style so you can engage the lock on 4th Wot.
