In general, we try to make the fest accessible to as big a chunk of the regional population as possible. The further we go to any one corner of the US, the fewer people we'll have driving in from other places.

The way I like to think of it is that we'll draw the bulk of our attendees from about a 1 day drive radius. Then a smaller group in the 1 to 2 day range. And then a handful from further out than that (like the ones from Montreal that went to Phoenix). So, while Florida will have a lot of people from in-state, there won't be too many from say Texas or Pennsylvania showing up.

Of course, the driving distance also gets affected by the potential draw of the location itself. If we can get a spot that'll make people go 'Whoa, they're having the 'Fest there?! Awesome!' then its a bit different than if its just some random track in a random place.

In the last week of September, I saw a store putting out Christmas stuff in their seasonal decoration section. It was a week and a half before (our) Thanksgiving, and 5 weeks until Halloween. When were people supposed to buy their plastic cornucopias or little covers to make a garden light look like a ghost? In the middle of summer? Then last weekend, I saw PBS had a Trans Siberian Orchestra Christmas special on. No. NO. NO. The trees around here haven't even lost all their leaves yet. There's only been 1 night of frost. Its too early for Christmas.

For me, its either first snowfall or 2 weeks out from Christmas, whichever comes first.

Then again, I tend to listen almost exclusively to Christmas music once I start ... so its probably best for my own sanity to not get started on it before my birthday. As much as I like TSO and Rob Halford, I don't think I could stand 7 straight weeks of it.
