iPhone 16 USB-C to USB A aftermarket radio issue
Hi everyone isn’t been a long time since i have been here. I wonder how many people from when this place was thriving with 5th gen’s are still active in here. Hope you all are well.
I just upgraded my iPhone from the 13PM to the 16PM. I bought some usb c to usb a cables and before I get into the issue, yes they do transfer data. Checked with my computer. I have a pioneer head unit installed. The install kit I used came with some type of connector to allow you to use the stock usb a plug with the radio. It worked great with my old phones. When I plugged in my new cable, the radio took a second and then I got the message “No Response”. It seems to charge fine but for some reason it would not allow any data to transfer. Anyone else on here using a similar setup and have success? I was able to get wireless CarPlay to work after fighting with it for 30 minutes. But I would much rather have the wired connection for better sound quality and no lag when using the steering wheel controls. Thanks in advance! |

Pioneer model AVH-W4400NEX. Bluetooth was a chore to get it paired but I did get it paired.

Just figured I would update this for anyone else who comes across it. I took the radio out of the dash and plugged a USB-A to USB-C side directly into the radio, bypassing the OEM USB port and the adapter from PAC audio. Same result. It appear that this model radio doesn’t know how to convert the signal from USB A to USB C. I will say that the only cables that I have for this are the brand from Amazon LISEN. I will try to see if I can test out with another brand cable to see if there is anything different that happens.
But if not it appears my only options are get a new radio or look into hacking the firmware to see if I can make some type of update. |

First off, I prefer wired CarPlay because of the higher audio quality, no lag when pressing steering wheel controls, and no latency between audio/video. I happened to come across a Nintendo branded USB A-C cable for my Switch and I figured I’d give it a try. It worked! I made sure to turn off WiFi and Bluetooth to verify it was working. Clearly the radio does not like the other brand cable that I was using. |
