Door Ding video - People suck

Ran into Wendy's today and parked in a field across the street away from all other cars. Come out to the Rav4 in the video parked at an odd angle near my car and sure enough I found a door ding that hit so hard the marks extend about 6 inches above and below the door crease. Waited on the driver to come out and explained nicely that she hit my door and that I'd like to get her insurance info. She called her husband who arrived 10 minutes later and he amazingly swore up and down her door didn't cause the damage. It was like arguing with someone who was telling me the earth was flat. I know with certainty the Rav4 hit it and their door lined up perfectly when he opened it along the entire line of the mark. His argument was that the dent was too and his wife said she didn't do it. Even in the video you can make out the mark on their door where their paint was rubbed off. My co-worker and I tried several times to reason with the guy to get insurance info but he insisted I'd have to call the police which I finally did. A deputy arrived and within 30 seconds she had to yell at the guy because he wouldn't let me talk and he started rubbing the door of my car to try and prove his point. Ultimately the deputy said she couldn't do anything for property damage which is what I expected but even though I could tell she agreed with me she couldn't offer an opinion so I was out of luck. I called a paintless dent guy but there are at least 2, possibly 3 spots where the paint was chipped so I'm pretty much screwed I guess. Will call my insurance but I doubt I can do anything.

Yeah I held the phone the wrong way - just an indication of how furious I was.

I'm one of those PDR guys. I have repaired dents with the paint gone or chipped out....then had a company come in and repair the paint. Couldn't even tell the car was ever damaged. You might look into that as well. It's crazy how disrespectfull people are.....

I'm not sure how to go about small claims court but I'll probably look into it. I have a lot of anxiety problems so really not sure it's worth it.

Anyone know how to get the people's name from their tag?

Cost you more than your deductible to worry with small claims court..
This has to be the most "sue" happy bunch of people on this sight that I've ever seen.

I agree but it's tempting when you catch someone damage your property and they still refuse to take responsibility.

Why in the hell does someone always park so close when clearly you (much like myself) park so far from anyone else?

I have noticed this too!! I will park a good 10-15 spots away minimum and when I come back out, people all around my car with empty spots everywhere!! It seems like if you park out in bfe people think "oh! Its a little mini parking lot!! Cool!"

Figures....I just hate it when I park a mile way only in BFE to find someone parked right next to me...it's like 'Really??'

Had the same thing happen - haven't had PDR fix it yet, but this stuff www.drcolorchip.com works wonders on small chips. May take 5-6 passes to fill it in completely, but can't tell at all that there was ever a chip.

WHy didn't the deputy file a police report? I'm pretty sure if you ask nicely they can do it. It will help your case in small claims or insurance.

It really pisses me off when I park way in the back and people park around me. You really kept your cool, I would have been like "ohhh you didnt ding my car?" (turn around and give her car a swift kick in the door) "I didnt just kick yours....." (Drive away) People piss me off!

Same thing just happened to me. Nothing I could do without video evidence. Was at a friend's plant working that day and parked in no man's land.

Have a beer, and enjoy the fact that some other dude has to put up with that door dingin skank on a daily basis... and you don't. It sucks but don't let the little stuff ruin your day. My doc flat cured a lot of my anxiety issues one day some years ago. I had all kinds of complaints about this and that, and what now seems like rediculous worries and frets. Doc said.... let's see the reality of your little issues - the guy I just saw before you has terminal brain cancer. Now seriously, go enjoy your day and your tomorrow he said. Holy smokes, that pretty much cured me of getting worked up over the small stuff.

Find a good dent guy and good cold beer.
