Making my V6 1LT non-RS sound meaner
Hey guys,
Alright so this is pretty much first post over on any kind of forum really. I'm far from being a mechanic guru on any kind of car yet alone my camaro. Hell just last week I honest to god just learned how to change my own oil and change a tire thats how bad I am. Either way, here's my question. Is there any kind of package or anything I should look for to help my V6 1LT non RS camaro sound a little meaner? Nothing loud enough to where I can't carry on a conversation with my passenger but loud enough to notice a difference when you start it up or step on the gas. Adding HP and TQ is a plus but not a requirement. Also I'm a marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA and doing any kind of MOD's on my own or with friends will be kind of limited because of all the training excercises I have to deal with so finding a place near San Diego or LA that could do it that any of you guys would know of would be greatly appreciated. Also how much should something like this cost on an avg basis? All help would be greatly appreciated and I'm learning new things as I go along. Thanks guys! |

Exhaust is your best bet. Check out the exhaust sample thread and see which one you like.

The Corsa Catback exhaust will do that.
Just got mine installed this friday. Took it on a 120 mile round trip, and didn't give you a headache driving the car. You are looking at $1100 - $1500 for this. That depends on where you get it and if you have the dealer install it. |

Im putting some links in here for ya, one with a bunch of types of exhaust and other parts and the other is a thread with a bunch of shops in your area. (im in San Diego).
So far, MRT v2.0 is a big hit. Sounds great. As far as HP and Tq goes, good luck on finding something that will add anything significant. With the LLT and its tuning.. doing any exhaust work would mainly be for sound performance rather than power. Heres the thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33104 As far as shops go, here is a thread with shops, locations and peoples opinions and such about their experience and quality. Hope this helps. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...t=76053&page=2 |

I agree, the two best mods to get a better sound is a CAI and an exhaust system.
I have installed an INJEN cool air induction system which is both easy to install and does have a performance boost. On the exhaust side, I have ordered a Solo exhaust system. It is a catback system which I felt gave better performance that the MRT v2 axelback system. The sound of both these systems are great but can be very stealthy under lite accels. Again, I have heard both and I liked the solo better.

Exhaust, CAI and headers. Start with the exhaust though, many great options. Personally went with MBRP, loving every second of it.

You, may want to try and make it to the big Camaro5 meet this Saturday up in Costa Mesa, CA. There are over 150 already signed up and you may be able to hear a setup you like.

Installing Flowmaster American Thunder axle-back exhaust on mine. To me is very close to MRT2 and is about a $100 cheaper. Comes with a 10 year warrenty and is Stainless Steel from Autoanything.com all for around $400 shipped.

Heres what i did.. I customized my exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers, 4 inch tips, and a magnaflow Tru-X pipe, Just ordered the Injen CAI, and JBA short tube headers. All of this cost me $900 with about $150 labor.
These guys are pretty damn good and had my work done at their shop, as did a few other C5 owners on the site. They'll back me up on this. They're in the Miramar area now so check out the site and call them if you like, talk to Greg. http://www.mustangsandmotorsports.com/ |
