Three points take practice, and they have to be a quality three point. I initially had a cheap three point on my AR, could never get it set right. It went away with my Saiga, lol. A friend's three point, unsure of make, was awesome though.

Also, and this is just my opinion, if your optic doesn't co-witness with your iron sights, be they be backup or not, then you need a different optic/mount. What happens if it fails? You forget to turn it on? Now you have to change hold, or remove the optic. Takes too long. My dot on my AR actually "prints" on the front sight post. If it fails, or I forget to turn it on, I just flick up the rear BUIS, and go to work. And I practice enough, it's second nature, so much so, I usually just flick it up anyway, lol. Been thinking of dropping the dot onto my MKIII.

Again, just an opinion, take it for what you paid for it, lol.

Good idea - I like the option of co-witnessing with my optics. But what I did instead was get a riser for my rail system that was tall enough to allow me to install the red dot on top of it and still allow myself to drop down to the open sights and use them through the hole in the bottom of the riser. Not co-witnessing, but you're right, if the optic fails or I don't have it on, I can still use my iron sights. I'll make some pics of the set up.

The riser is another option, one a lot of folks use. I don't like it due to the fact it changes your cheek weld, the position of your check on the stock. With a riser set up, your up high for the optic, then relocate for the iron sights. Nothing wrong with it if you practice with it, but if you don't, it'll change the way things feel, and print.

But like people say, if it works, run with it, lol! As long as you practice with your set up, then I'm all for it!

Glock 23

I arm up every time I step foot in PA. Wish NYC would let people other than BGs carry guns
