Its not THAT important but the MRT's tend to rotate after being clamped on For a while. Plus possible leaks.

Surely a muffler shop could weld them in 5 minutes for like $50?

Welded on to stop them from rotating. I would think they can do it for less than the $100. I listed, but that was including install and welding. If you show up with them already on, welding should be less than $50 as you suggested.

I think it is totally doable you just man run into some issues as having a hard time maneuvering the sawzall to cut (depending on how big yours is) and may have a hard time taking the stock ones out. As far as welding, I had mine clamped for the first few thousand miles and they never moved I just noticed some soot forming on the midpipe from a slight leak, apparently I didn't tighten them enough. I eventually got them welded on when I went with a 2.5' midpipe.

I would get them welded somewhere down the road as everyone else has suggested. I had the v1 on my 1LT and they rotated even with me cranking down on them. Had them welded and problem solved.

When I brought my MRT 2 home last Summer my 20 year old son was so excited he asked to install them. Before I could get to Harbor Freight and back with a Sawsall, he had the first stock muffler off. Took 30 min with a hacksaw. The seond one was off in 2 minutes. He did this bare backed lying on the driveway with an extra few inches from a jack... didn't even get the rear wheels off the ground. I've had them clamped since then but plan to have them tack welded this Spring. It's nice to have some extra clearance. I often (I know this is anal) polish the mufflers, and wax the control arms so it always looks like a new ride from the back. Enjoy your mufflers!

I did mine on jack stands and with a hack saw took about 45 minutes for both. I wouldn't do that again. I tightened the crap out of the clamps and for some reason only the drivers side would stay put. The passenger side would rotate and touch the rear diffuser. It got to the point I forgot about pushing it back down and it started to melt the hole opening. I took it to the local muffler shop and for $25 and less than 10 minutes they were both welded.

yep. always it was the passenger side that was rotating and should just be welded in place.

There's not a type of "metal glue" that you could put on before clamping down?

There possibly is glue but before I would attempt glue and you don't want to take it to get it welded. What I would then do is after you have it clamped in place and if it moves go to a hardware store get about 4 metal screws of appropriate size, not to big. Get a drill and a drill bit somewhat smaller than the screw and drill at least one hole straight through the clamp, tailpipe and axle back and run the screw into it. The reason I said 4 is I would maybe put 2 on each pipe opposite of each other might secure them better. The screw would stop it from rotating.

The other idea would be is to try and cut the slot in the pipe on the mufflers a touch bigger so it has a little more gap to be able to tighten down more.

These are just ideas and I was going to try the cutting the slot thing but I figured it wasn't going to cost that much to weld them and the $25 was way easier then the time it would take me to find a solution and it was worth it in my book. 5 to 10 minutes I was in and out of the muffler shop.

Dean.
