Wink FINALLY BACK AT IT

Been laid up for a week with migraines. But doing better now, so will get some work done on the car and go to work tonight.

Got the new Holley fuel pump installed. Also put in a Russell (Edelbrock) piston type check valve. (it was the flapper check valve that messed up my 3rd fuel pump setup, oh well, pressing on) Installed the return line to the pump assy.

Did some work on my tune, Hey Mark (FASNUF) could you take a look see if I missed anything in the tune. Thanks!

Hey Vic,

Are you going to run E85?

It looks like you're running a mechanical regulator with a base setting of 44psi.
Looks to be 85# injectors.

I took a quick look but I don't know anything about your injector data so I can't help much. It's probably the most important thing to get right before attempting to tune.

Hey Mark,
No on the e85 none for sale around me, I will still be running 92 octane with boostane. Yes 45psi with 85# injectors, triple checked all injector data it is correct.

Thank you for you time!

It looked fine to me but if you find your injector duty cycle at WOT is getting too high, you'll need to probably go to 58 psi.

I also see you turned off your Long Term Fuel Trims. I've been thinking about doing the same. It can create problems when in Power Enrichment.

Thanks Vic, glad to help out.

Yeah, right now fuel pressure is 50 to 51psi even at idle with the FPCM and Livernois pumps. I will be using a boost reference regulator, won't fuel pressure rise as boost does? That is the reason I set it at 45psi so at 18lb of boost fuel pressure will be 63lbs. I have a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail to get real time fuel pressure.

That's correct. 43lbs is base pressure at hot idle with boost reference plugged off.
1:1 boost reference both ways...more in boost and less in vacuum. just keep an eye on injector DC. good rule of thumb is 85% max.

Quick (and apparently little known) trick to get around that PE issue, AND keep your long trims active. I'm the only one I've ever seen do this in a tune, but it works great to keep positive trims from adding to PE.

Fuel>Oxygen Sensors

Change LTFT Mode Boundaries, Purge off as such:
Make the 9-10 cell something lower, like maybe 58 (that's what I used), so it moves into that cell on its way to open loop. Then, even if you have positive trims, it will pass through cell 9 on it's way to open loop, which will have a different set of trims (likely 0 since you're never in there long enough for it to learn). So, the last set of trims it sees prior to open loop are 0 or close to it.

And let me tell both of you guys, these Gen V ecm's are an interesting beast. Just now getting my hands into it on the new ride, but it's pretty cool the way all of the torque stuff works. I think a lot of it is actually easier, albeit more complex. Certainly need to change your mindset from Gen III and IV ecm's.

Anyway, glad to see the build moving along, Vic!!

Sorry Rob ... easier but more complex is an oxymoron to this old man

I guess I didn't follow, did you get a 6th gen? >>>>edit: duh, I see the avatar now

Thank you! Glad to see you still check up on my build. I pulled out the 427ci build stuff, will do a full spread on it when done building it.
Thanks for the LTFT advice will try it.
Sounds like you are having fun with the new car!

Finally had time to make and install the a bracket for the fuel pressure regulator, I know it is not in the best place for controlling pressure. But, this engine should come out this winter for the new one. Just waiting for a couple of 90* fittings to finish the install of the fuel lines and the pressure sense line to the regulator.

Then I will install the tune and see what happens.

Fuel system done

Return fuel system is installed and adjusted, initial tune is working. Using the pressure readings from the OEM pressure sensor on HP Tuners. At idle the regulator is set at 52psi with the regulator reference vacuum / pressure line disconnected and the intake pressure port capped, 45psi with the line connected.
Used 4an line for the plenum to regulator.

Now to re-tune... As fuel pressure changes with intake pressure.

Car is back together, will make an appointment with the wheel alignment shop ASAP.

I am attaching my installed HP Tuners Tune.
I am using a 60 second prime on the fuel system, that way cool fuel will be cycled to the fuel rails after shut down and heat soak. Also I have to wait for the oil accumulator to pressurize the engine oil system and float the crank.

My Bud is looking over my work, he gave me a high five for a job well done!
