Is this new motor going to be in the SRT8 only? If it is and is 10k more than a SS then I would say who cares. If you are able to get it for the same price as the GT and SS then thats a different story. If this new motor is a SRT8 only option I would say they for sure need to put the 6.1 in the R/T because that car needs some serious help with its price range compitition.

The problem is the R/T is the one that needs the bump. Unless the srt8 can compare to the gt500 and z28, it's still super over priced and outgunned. Frankly, without well over 500hp, it's just not in the right price bracket.

Not if the new 6.4 has antiquated speed density on it like the current 5.7 and 6.1. There is a reason the Ford and Chevy motors respond better to mods, and this is a huge factor. Hell, Ford stopped using speed density in the 80s.

LS3 SS vs. 6.4L SRT8=Tied up, dead even

The only reason why I say this with the LS3 vs 392 fight

The SRT8 is may pick up about 10-15 pounds with a new transmission, and the parasitic loss will likely be lower due to a modern automatic (and not the ancient Mercedes 5 speed auto) transmission. The 6.4(392) that is going in is going to be lighter than the 6.1L going out, at at worst, the same weight. However, the change from hydrolic to electric steering will reduce weight.

Thus the SRT8 will pick up only a few pounds (if any) in exchange for 55 HP and 40 tq. The Camaro is picking up a few pounds too in 2011 and isnt getting better gearing or power.

Once we throw mods on? bets are off.
Don't forget that the SRT8 will probably have a automatic version. So the L99 and the automatic SRT8 will be pretty much dead even too.

If you're going to compare the L99 to a manual, and LS3 to manual.....then compare the LS3 to automatic, and the L99 to automatic....lol. Because I am sure the new automatic SRT8 won't "walk" the L99.

The auto Challengers are consistently getting better times than the 6-speeds.

The best matchup for the Challenger in a Challenger vs Camaro race is an auto Challenger vs an auto Camaro.

A 2011 6.4L SRT Challenger Automatic will walk a L99. It'll have 80 more HP and 50 more torque and weigh only around 250 pounds more with drivers.

A LS3 vs. 6.4 fight will be more fair, with the 6.4 having a slight edge.

Um, the automatics are generally quicker than the Manuals, remember the SRTs aren't neutered of 26 HP like the auto Camaro. Truth i the current R/T automatic Challenger is a good race for a L99 Camaro.

6.4l hemi 4200lbs/480bhp = 8.75
6.2l ss==3800lbs/426bhp = 8.92
5.0 GT ==3600lbs/412bhp = 8.73

hemi will trap high, but lose with stock tires unless they are 345/35's

my guess:

SS = 12.9 @ 111
GT = 12.8 @ 110
hemi 13.1 @ 112

on the same spring(may) track on the same day. if they manage to hook the hemi then 12.7 @ 112.

the hemi has a huge torque and HP advantage over the smaller LS3. its tables turned on the "torque wins races" theme.

Right on. The current SRT8 runs 13.2 at 109 under fair condtions. Adding 55HP will shake things up, expect 12.9 @ 112 to be the the stated time, and hero runs in the 12.5s. It will walk the L99, especially from a roll.

the 6.4 will walk a lot of us from a roll.

I don't think so.

Weight comes into play big time. You also have to remember that the driver also adds weight. I'm pretty sure it would be a even match up, there will be no "walking" of any sort between the two. L99's are quick as all hell. Could the SRT8 beat it? probably. Few will win, few will lose. But I don't think by much.

Driver weight matters more in lighter cars than heavier cars so it would hurt the Camaro more than it would hurt the Challenger.
