Okay, so just to clarify. Is the new mirror setup supposed to function as a backup camera display, or a rear view display while driving to help make up for the poor rear visibility? I had assumed it was the latter, which is a cool idea.

The new mirror uses a camera to display a much better rear view display than can be done with just the rear view mirror.

It's an option on some levels of the 2019 Camaro.

Both... but the video display can be turned on/off.

It's on the SS and ZL1 only. But not on the 1LE.

I feel much younger now

Definitely a test mule and probably used for multiple things but my bet for one of those is testing the camera so they can get it out of the spoiler. I like that location.

Only the regular SS and ZL1... not the 1LE

That's what I'm thinking.

Sounds like something you could get going on for the 2019's
Parts are on order, as soon as we get them in will let you know.

Sounds like a cool feature. I would think a camera on the back of the roof antenna would be a great location for displaying a regular driving image for the rear. For a backup cam, I’d think they’d want something closer to the ground that has the bumper area in sight. Sort of two different purposes IMO.

Another thing it improves is location is closer to the driver which helps with depth perception.

It's a fantastic feature. I switched to camera when I fist sat in it and it's been there since.

I finally got a close up look at a 2019 ZL1. I guess I was correct in assuming it would have two cameras. I didn’t think the one in the spoiler would be a very good backup cam. So I think that answers my question.

Definitely a cool feature, though I don’t think the rear visibility is as bad as some claim.

Yes, spoiler is just for rear view mirror. Moving to Antenna will allow all models to have this feature.
Plus it just seems like a much better location.

I've never had an issue with rear visibility either. Even with the wing going across the back it's still not an issue. Sort of blocks out bright headlights too but definitely doesn't block cars. The angle is just right.
