I need to get out at least one more time this fall. I have gotten so nervous about breaking the car that I quit dragging it altogether until I can find something else to drive to work in the morning. I'm going to look at a 71 C10 on wednesday as a possible DD/winter vehicle. It'll be nice to have something I care less about to put around in.

Hey Guys. So I am getting a cam custom spec'd by Pat G as we speak. I am new to this, but have been reading around and doing some research.

Cam Motion seems like a great place to get my cam ground, but their spec sheet has a few items I am unsure about. Whether to choose 'Hydraulic, solid, or low lash solid rollers'. From what I understand the solid and solid low lash are quieter than hydraulic, but also harder on the valvetrain(low lash not as much), and will require new roller rocker arms as well as the usual springs and push rods.

I am getting a somewhat mild cam spec'd as my goal is usable power and torque in a daily driver. A quiet valve train in a DD is also preferred, as you can imagine.

Can you guys give me some insight and/or recommendations? Will this already be taken care of by Pat?

Thanks guys!

Yes pat will tell you what route to go but it's more likely to be a hydraulic roller

Yeah I figured dealing with Pat would be a 'one stop shop'.

Can you shed some light in to why it would be hydraulic? Just how he will spec it? Solid used for bigger cams usually?

Unless u specified solid pat will spec on hydraulic setup...... Going solid requires roller rocker arms ($1100) and solid lifters around $400-$500 for a good set..... Normally the solid set up are for your racers or hard core street people because of the size cam you would need to take advantage of it

Touchy subject. He is now Mikes fast ss or something like that. Not around much anymore. Things got out of hand. Slowhawk and FSP got him back on his feet and he's tearing it up again last I heard.

you know...I've learned something...OTS cams do work. As long as the shop doing them will make a minor tweak here or there to your combo. But that being said...some still flat out work. not always needing to reinvent the wheel. Once you are staring down some custom heads though, yeah...I'd get a custom grind. VVT...custom grind there too if heads or even FI.
And...a "blower cam" is BS. a cam for a centri will be different than for a roots blower unless there is a compromise somewhere.

Question for the pros...
Got a good deal on a ZL1 diff,axles,and hubs.
Bad new is it's out of a auto(3.23) i don't think id ever go that long of a gear I'm my M6. Does GM sell the 3.73 for the ZL1 diff?
Is there anything different from as far as installing them from other diff's?
